I was just reading up on the engine specs for the AUII XR8 and am curious about the camshaft they used. What would be an equivalent aftermarket cam that might work with the standard EL V8 ECU without being a drama?

The AU2 cam is a fairly small cam with specs of around 480th lift and 206/208 duration from memory, not much better than the stock E-series cam.
The ELs adapt quite well to cam changes so you can go a fair bit bigger without any problems. You can get really good results with the Crane 2031 or 2030 cams or if you want something a bit wilder but still streetable try the Trickflow TFS-51402000. |

Its alittle better with auto's Approx specs..216in and 220 exh @50 532 lift [Hmm sounds close to 2030] As per usuall under construction...But here... Been under construction since I'v had p/c... http://www.svomotorsport.com/components/107.htm ...

Yeh Mick Webb's site has moved forward a little since last year but in any case, I guess I was more or less wondering how my standard ECU would deal with a camshaft that went into the AU XR8's. Would it deal with it okay or wouldn't the ECU be up to the task?

The EL EEC will cope pretty well with most aftermarket cams out there. If you stick below about 220@50th duration the idle will be quite good, anything above that starts becoming a bit lumpy. |

MAF metered V8 ECUs are fairly resilient to cam changes. Not like the I6 at all. Can go fairly radical on MAF... but you need to consider suitability for your transmission. IMO the cam you refer to is fairly mild and your eec would behave fine. Might be some gains to be had with a tune, but it wouldnt give you any grief i.e. crappy idling

I had a B303 cam in my old donk (from memory 244@050 duration) in my EF with stock ecu and it did'nt have any dramas. I just had to raise the base idle a little. Gave it a nice rumble.

Someone wrote recently that Ford have a bunch of cams that seemed to follow the alphabet
like; B303 E303 etc etc. Just how many cam types have Ford Australia put in our V8's? Which cams went into which models?

As far as I am aware, Ford Australia didn't use many of the FMS in production models. The standard cam used was the standard ford E8ZE-6250-CA which had .444th lift and 204@50th duration while the Sprint, EB GT and EL GT got the F3ZE-6250-CA which had 479th and 209@50th duration.

Vic,
The alpha cams denoted above are ford motorsport cams... http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/pa ... Field=1329 This has specs on all the FMS cams... also down the bottom you will note reference to the stock 5.0L HO cam... i understand this is the cam fitted to all EB-EL 5.0L engines... i.e. the HO motors. I dont think cam changes started until AU engines with the GT40 gear... maybe variations between series 1, 2 and 3 AU but will let one of the other guys comment on this....
