Can any one tell me what I could get in a AU3 220 (from the mentioned cams), its still stock as a rock (no mods yet, but I am wanting to turbo charge it). I want to get it street tough yet still able to drive it in traffic.
Do all AU's sit in the same boat with KW gains or is there a slight difference as you come up the XR8 series.

All late model efi windsors have a roller cam. If you want to check a bit of info on those cams (crane) go to www.cranecams.com and type that number in it will give u the cam spec etc. As for Rocket they can get those cams they just don't have in normal stock (special order) they had to get mine in direct from crane....expect to pay bout $500 for cam and bout $400 for spring and retainer kit.

theres a few cam grinders that will do a custom grind to suit youre heads (port work, cfm@ lift etc), the cam I currently run in my EL XR8 with heavily ported E7's is only relatively small, but I have managed to get 276rw hp along with reasonable fuel economy (8km/l) ,drivability power from 1600rpm, don't get something too big as you will only raise the max power by a little and reduce the power band by heaps.
the main problem with regrinds is that you reduce the off lift lobe size, meaning you have to use longer pushrods or have adjustable rockers.

That's not something I had considered - that the cam we choose can badly affect the fuel economy. I figured that no matter what cam we chose, if we just drove with a light foot or even better, sat on 100km/h with cruise control on, that we'd automatically get far better fuel economy as the motor is hardly going to need to be using much fuel to get moving. Is this not the case?
