Can anyone inform me of where i can get a cam positioning sensor for my AU1 XR8 5 Litre.
The sensor part is all right it is the drive that goes into the motor that is worn and making quite a bit of noise. Went to ford and $960.00 for the part. If any one can point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, had a problem with mine a couple of years ago went to ford and was told about the same price, mine would start making a horrible noise and would start breaking down, the bloke at ford told me to try this, take the sensor off and tip a bit of oil into the top of drive still in the motor, did so and hey presto, fixed never had the problem again, hope this is of some help, cheers

Hi, you will find that the camshaft synchroniser for the explorer 1996-1998 is not the same as a au1 5.0l, the one from the explorer motor from 1999-2001 is the same, I have the synchroniser tools for both to set the base timing, bought the wrong one first before i realized, gotem both from the U.S, still try the oil thing first, I only done it once and lasted for 2 years then I changed motors,(needed the tool to install new cam synch in new motor) otherwise you will find it at .http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carco ... type,10722

I have the Motorcraft type brand new that will suit. Still in box. comes with tool aswell.

yours for $70 plus postage.

They are normally around $100 in the US, then allow for freight - $40. The Motorcraft are the better brand, and are actually the Ford brand. Dorman are cheap chinese rubbish. I bought one and had it replaced as it didn't come with the gear wheel??

Going to order the part through the link you gave me. Just going to leave the old girl parked in the shed till the part arrives.. Luckily i have another xr8 to get round in.. The one that is playing up the AU has only 171000km on the clock.

Ok, thanks, while you have it sitting there , if you havent done so before you should give the MAF wires a clean won't help with the cam synchroniser but can make a fair difference with how the motor runs, there are a couple of threads on this forum about it, cheers

I have the Dorman in mine which is working fine, but if I had my time again I would definetely pay the little extra and get the genuine motorcraft one as I have read a few bad stories from guys in the US.
