As far as I know, stock NL's got the stock 165kw engine so I'm guessing you would have the stock cam.

EF/EL base 5.0 is 165kw, XR8 is 170kw. I don't think the extra 5 kw is in the cam, probably just a different ECU program. 185kw XR8 cam isn't any different from the 170kw one either.
Even AU XR8 cam isn't much different. Infact it'd probably be a step backwards. $50 is cheap, but it's not worth the effort. You'd probably pay more in gaskets just changing it. Any power gain would be almost impossible to pick other than on the dyno. Save the cash and get a proper cam later on. It's just way too much effort for so little gain. |

The 170kW motor is purely better headers. If it's $50 I assume it is second hand. There is no way a second hand cam will go in any of my motors.

I believe the cam is the only difference between the 165 & 172 engines. other than cam the intakes are identical as are the mc donalds thick shack straw exhaust headers and massive high flow 1 3/4 " dual cats.
The cam is pretty much the same as stock though. For the hassals of changing a cam the very least you would want to put in is an E303.
