I think you should stop listening to him.I've achieved 170rwkw's with basically a standard stall converter.2800rpm dominator on its way.

I've also heard stories of hunting too...
Still, 9.5 out of 10 high high powered stip lovin Falcs run autos (BTR 4 speeder included), so I don't know... |

depends how big of a cam u go...
theres millions of variables in cam selection.. so a general comment like that applies, but u really gotta research to get a definate..

alot of the off street drag racing boyz are running 2 speed powerglides, rebuilt trimatics, strengthened C4s, C10's, torqueflights, you name it.... autos are great for drag racing especially when prepared right...if cams do bog it down, the car doesn't really give a rats a*** since there are probably 3.9 or 4.11 gears and a stall convertor to over ride the so called lost power down low. Then there is NOS.....

In many cases what your mechanic said is true, however the popular 5L Windsor cams available these days generally improve low end torque as well as top end power. Stick with the well known cams like the Crane 2020, 2031, 2030, along with some of the Crow and Comp cams and you should be fine with the auto.

yer this guy was saying when the au first came out and i think cam profiles have come along way since then quite like look of comp cams xe270hr .544 lift in-ex which is quite high lift and 218 in 224 ex @0.50 spose to work from 2000 rpm up thought about goin next one down but duration is sim to stock one with a bit more lift which i dont think there would be much gain wadda ya reckon, has anybody usedthe xe270hr

That comp cam valve lift is high but would really suit a high flowing pair of heads. What heads have you got?

i was gonna go for hte xe270hr but figured the 274 would be more suited to me.. (ie a draggin, burnout chuckin, rev head)
i was gonna get 1.6 rockers, as the 35-351-8(270) cam was suited to them, and gave .512 lift.

I've noticed that the flow through a pair of stock GT40P's is about at its best under .500 lift. I reckon that unless you port them, any valve lift over .500 will have minimal gains with a high lift cam.
