Hi all, since I've had my new motor its been leaking oil,i've taken it back and the engine builder dropped the trans and replaced the rear main seal, but it still leaks so he fixed it again today but when i got home
[u guessed it] it fcuking leaking still,is this a common problem?? he's thinking it could be the cam seal now or the crank is damaged and that could be causing issues, couldn't he drop the trans and start it up to see exactly where its leaking from or is that too simple??

if it were leaking from the cam plug or one of the others in that area you'd think it would be pretty obvious.. perhaps your crank has a grove worn in it which is stopping the new seal from sealing?
not sure how easy it would be to install a speedy sleeve with the motor assembled?

not sure how easy it would be to install a speedy sleeve with the motor assembled? my mechanic thinks the same thing maybe the crank has a groove but its a new scat 347 crank only done 1300k's since rebuild and it leaked from the i got it back.

if its a new crank it shouldnt be a problem..
you'd think the mechanic would have a look whilst he has the old seal out? theres not alot of space but i reckon you'd probably be able to see any obvious damage.. im assuming the crank is designed to take a 1 piece seal? not a rope type job? the older series engines that had the rope type seals had a series of grooves cut in the crank where the seal sits..

i've now had the rear main seal fixed again but it still leaks does anyone have any ideas wat the prob is or is there a high performance seal i can use,it has a fast drip on idle and this is the 3rd time its been fixed, only traveled 1500ks since rebuild with a 347 scat crank

OK who did the rebuild?
When I was assembling mine I put a small amout of sealant on the last main cap, between the cap and block and between the main bolt holes and bearing. Ask Scat what size rear main they recomend to use.

maybe leaking out under the main cap the late model windsor blocks have a 1 piece seal so i cant imagine this leaking that bad.
As for startin the engine and havin a look its a bit hard with no flex plate or bellhousin on it and witout the flex plate the engine will be so far out of balance u wont want to be under the car |

He did that,he can't understand why its leaking, problem with the block?? as i changed my block to an el block after detonation fcuked mine,or the crank isn't quite round,he's built 100's and 100's and never had a rear main seal problem,he's thinking of removing trans again then the dizzy and sticking a drill in and turning the motor over and try to pressurise it that way and hopefully see where exactly its leaking from ,we've been told to try a speedy sleeve but its a new crank and that probably won't do s**t. any way the car goes too the dyno on monday so i'll atleast get the tuning side of things sorted,

I remember reading a while ago about a guy on the Corral forums who had a similar problem with replacing rear mains a lot. After he built his stroker it turned out that for some reason the new bottom end was building up too much pressure in the crank case and forcing the rear main seal out. Could be something to look into.

it may be leaking through the flywheel bolts, it might pay to dip them into some sealing compound before re-fitting.
Also if they have been majorly overtightened, it can distort the crank, causing it to leak from the rear main seal, only way to fix this one is to have the crank machined. |

check crankcase and oil presures and next time replacing check crank is central with calipers and measure shaft size to be sure
