Hey all,
I've been told by a couple of people now that the traction control in the BA's can damage or is not good for the auto transmission. Is this true? I drive a BA V8 mont and the traction control kicks in a fair bit when i drive, sometimes when it isn't needed. I've been told its better to drive with it off. Sounds like a bit of BS to me but would like some input. Thanks. |

I would be more worried about the motor by the sounds of it when mine kicks in it sounds like it cuts the spark or petrol. I hope its no petrol

The BA traction control activates when the ECU senses a wheel turning more than it should for the speed of the car. If it is one wheel, such as lighting it up around a corner, the ECU will apply a brake on the spinning wheel and if it both at the same time, the ECU will cut timing, petrol and also shut the throttle and leaning the A/F ratio.

What condition are the tyres ina dnwhat are they, condition and quality of the rubber will trigger the traction control early if either is poor or cheap. But as others have said, Trction control kicking in will not reduce the life of the motor or box.

Tyres are goodyear excellence $260 a tyre so there not cheap, think it has more to do with the problem i have with my right foot |

By the way how does the TC acyually work? Does it shut off a cylinder like Holden or does it apply the brakes.

It starts with applying the brakes to whichever wheel is spinning, if that doesnt control it it limits throttle opening and injection pulse width. Alot more refined than the commodore setup |
