Hi all just wanting to get peoples thoughts on what the problem could be with my el xr8. The car has afr heads, cam, eldelbrock manifold, 65mm throttle body, deleted egr, ba xr8 maf with el sensor in the body, fuel system etc. I had replaced the maf sensor as that was originaly the problem and then sent it to a big name performance shop for a tune and to make sure the problem was soughted. After having the car for 3 weeks the could only achieve 178 kw atw and seemed to fix the problem. After about a month the car starting becoming hard to start and then starting hunting at idle. Now the car will hunt and stall if you dip the clutch in anywhere over 1000rpm. It will idle but as soon as you rev it it will start hunting then stall. I then checked the tps and at idle it was at 1.8v. I reset it to .98v and it made it a little bit better but still the same old. The car revs all the way to 6100 no problems, but just wont idle. Any one come across something similar???

I have a similar issue, car will die if revs drop fromn driving to idle, unless i let them down slowly, is alot worse with lights on or going around corners(power steer). I got a new battery and it did fix it a little but not totally, i cleaned the Maf sensor and new o2 sensors, again a little better but still does it. I'm thinking i might havea vacuum leak between upper and lower manifold (i have a spacer there) maybe something to do with EGR hole, not sure. Next stepis to pull upper of and block hole, check anything to do with a vacuum line, also go over my earth's( though i'm pretty sure there ok).

Failing that i'll be finding someone that can tune "on the go" and basically getting a re-tune

Al

Yeh sounds exactly the same as mine haha its very frustrating as ive been trying to get on top of this for awhile. I thought the performance shop would sought it out but all they managed to do was mask it for awhile.

Haha, I took mine back, cost me $800 and half a day for them to drain my tank, and play with the tune, drove home and it was the same, I rang them and said nothing changed, I managed to get it up there again and final solution was to wind idle up, didn't even adjust voltage. There MAY be something wrong with my motor so I won't blame them, but there wasn't much love there.

I have been trying to fix my hunting idle for 3 weeks finely worked out that the idle control valve was faulty it was hunting and stalling at idle.
Easy to check, oms should read around 9.5
The old one read 0.03 oms
After replacing it The idle was fixed.
Had to reset the base idle and the TPS
I used the this procedure

Who is tuning the car, and using what? I've said it before and I'll say it again, in Brisbane, James at BPS is the man to go to for tuning. gotta love a v8 (a member here) took his AU there on my advice and came out rapt with the professionalism and service provided at BPS.

Cheers for the info ill have to test the idle control motor. Blue Power tuned the car with the SCT switch chip eliminator. The results were no where near what the engine should be able to make and what i thought to be very average was they tuned it with the TPS at 1.8v at idle. I discovered this when I was trying to sought out the issues a couple of weekes ago

I have replaced my Idle motor with another second hand unit, i'll check the resistance but i don't think it's that on mine seeing as though it's not very consistant

If they tuned it with the TPS set at 1.8V it was never going to last.
Is the TPS actually ok because it may have been ok when it was tuned but has buggered up since?
Did you follow the procedure for resetting the idle?

E 303 cams like plenty of air when idling.. I found when fitting the 65mm Cobra throttle body
it had NO hole in the butterfly.. When I drilled the Cobra t/body to same size as 60mm std t/body and set TPS and idle, it came good..
It seems if its idling rich .. The EEC tries to add air. Which causes the rise in idle ??
Check 02 sensors also...

Yep maybe TPS has moved or stuffed ???

When buying a new tps, do i get an upper or lower? Are they the same? I have a manual car. I assume the second is for the auto?

Have you tested the one you have before buying another?
Get the upper one with the closed top.
Is your car originally a manual or has it been converted?

Have not tested it, and car is a factory manual. What would be a good way of testing it?

Put your meter on it and slowly move it from idle to wot making sure there is no dropouts or sudden changes in the reading.

I checked the tps just by using the resistance, nice even change the whole way, i think it started at about 30ohms, actually can't be to sure but it was 3 something, almost got it to 0 at WOT. Does this seam like it is ok?
