Im an engine noob so go easy.
Dad's DC was written off a few months back and has a 302w in it. The car hit the tree front first right down the middle. The engine is pushed back and the diff looks bent. What i want to do is pull the engine out and store it while im dismantling the car for parts and eventually use it in a project car or work it and do an engine conversion on the merc. The engine was smooth and had plenty of power before the crash. Is there any visual inspections i can do on the engine to see if it is damaged and whether or not it is fixable? If i threw some photos up would that help? If it's unfixable, what parts should i keep off it (sensors etc) as i'll prob buy a cheap one eventually anyway. Any input appreciated, cheers

photo's always help.
basiclly u just gotta have a real close inspection of the motor...check for hairline cracks on castings, weak spots, check damaged area's where panels/parts have been pushed in2 it.... its a pretty simple process just gotta trust ur judgement, if get what i mean.

I would be very hesitant using an engine from a car thats had a hard front ender - hard enough to push the engine back and bend the diff...
I definetly would not touch the transmission in it, if its had enough force through it to bend a diff, chances are its F**k. Did the engine still turn over? There is a good chance it is still ok, but it might need things like the harmonic balencer etc replaced because of the hit... Visually is there anything broken on the front of the engine? Water pump etc? Just my 2c worth
