hold the ignition key on (start position) and hit the dash (on top, and next to your left leg) and see if it starts, if it does its a loose solder in the BEM board.

A little more info might help us narrow the problem down, so lets start with the first question;
When you turn the key to the "on" position, does the smartlock light go out after 1 or 2 seconds when it won't start?

Car did not want to start the other day, so I hit the top of the dash as I tried to start it, and it worked. I was told the body control module is in there and it can be a problem....

had the same problem, seems the smartlock security is attached to the ignition barrel, when the key passes through, it also engages the smartlock system, disabling it. But as the components wear, a cheap little plastic clip, which holds the wiring and lock for the smartlock, which inturn contains all the intricate little springs, which the key engages. Well this clip snaps and the whole lot either comes apart in 1 go, or it floats there till that 1 day it finally goes, in the meantime it just gives you headaches. This maybe your fault, suggest having a look at the ignition barrel.

Found my ED to do the same sometimes.
99% of the time it occurs when the cabin temp is rather hot (car parked in the sun) Holding the key against resistance in the start position for a few secs and it suddenly kicks to life. May also be a fuel regulator/fuel pump issue. Bit of a worry when you go to start your car after putting fuel in, line up of cars waiting for fuel and it wont start. |
