im currently in the process of installing gt40p heads explorer manifolds and a crow cam (cant remember the p/n of the top of my head) on the xr8. now ive also got a set of pacie ph4000 ready to bolt up also.

my question would i be better of getting the extractors ceramic coated OR installing a set of bpt underdrives. each have there pros and cons, heres what i can think of:

ceramic coating
PRO
- reduced eng temps
- increase in tourque
- very bling bling finish :D

CON
cant really think of a con with this one

under drives

PRO
- increased throttle response
- more power and torque

CON
- stuff all batt charge under 1500rpm
- more strain on cooling system
- increased low speed steering effort

going by the above pros and cons it looks like the coating is the clear winner but id like to hear your thoughts.

prices between the two are virtually identical so yeh thats not a factor

cheers

underdrives will give you an increase you can feel.
i don't think the slight increase in torque from the ceramic coating will be noticable.
only people ive heard having issues with battery charge with under drives is those who only go on short stop-start drives.

i think you will notice more of an improvement in the way the engine performs with the underdrives compared to ceramic coating the extractors..

Coating and performance im not sure about but if ur gona coat them eventually when u have the money just do them first as u dont want to be pulling extractors out again to get them coated and put back again.

Underdrive pullies are much easier to do at any given time so coat extractors then when u have cash for underdrives then do them.

i noticed more low down torque going from 4480 (standard blue coating) to 4480's with Kermachrome coating and engine bay was heaps cooler

hey

it should as under drive pullies reduce rotating mass, just think of a lightened flywheel, same principles

cheers bear

hey

theoretically it can be done to any motor, its just a case if parts are availiable or if one off custom parts need to be made

another thing with under drives you will often need to run a smaller belt.

i will be bolting a set onto the bf fairmont ghia then i will be supercharging it   at this stage i will be going a capa kit with intercooler

cheers bear
