Just strip the engine bay completely and replace all the stuff with the V8 gear. At a minimum you will need to change the engine with all the wiring and computer and transmission. Also a good idea to change the suspension over (springs only as far as I am aware), you can reuse your tailshaft and diff if you want but you will probably find the V8 diff is LSD and your 6cyl one may not be.
Its a big job, normally I would just say sell your 6cyl and buy a V8 but seeing you got the V8 LTD for nothing it is probably worth it. |

thats y im looking at doing it coz i got everything apart from the interior free
i can take wat ever i want off the rest of the car i dunno if you guys would know... would the LTD diff fit ok onto my car? engine-wise i know i gotta change the mounts and suspension, transmission, exhaust, i dunno about the radiator or fans... computer i know but where is the computer that controls the engine? what about the fuel pump? is it different for V8's? coz i just bought a new fuel pumpfor mine 10 months ago replacing everything isnt a problem coz my dad used to be a mechanic but ever since a lot of the cars are controlled electronically he cant do much coz he stopped that work in mid 80's sorry i havent looked into it at all thats y i need a lot of questions answered i just found out yesterday that he doesnt want it anymore so i wanna jump on the idea it would also help with the value of the car

The computer (ECU) is behind the kick panel in front front on the passenger side.. under the dash where the feet are. The diff will fit fine, difference been that V8 diffs are stronger, and it should have 3.27 gearing. The springs will definately need changing as the V8 ones are taller, and also the auto's need a seperate transmission controller computer... whatever its called. So you'll need to run wiring for that aswell.
Cheers

All Ltd's had a 3.23 LSD
3.45 Lsd was fitted To fairmont ghia, concorde fairlanes, FBT, XR's Ford say that series 1 xr8's had a 3.23 but i have never seen one - they have all had 3.45 The conversion is a big job and with petrol prices id stay with the 6! :p Not too bad just put the car up and drop teh k frame and auto with suspension attatched

EL fairmont ghia's did have 3.45, and Im pretty sure that 3.23 was for the i6's, and the 3.27 were the V8's. Could be wrong.
Cheers

Cheers All EL Ghias (regardless of V8 / I6) got the 3.45 LSD standard...3.27 final ratios regardless of LSD factor were used in earlier E-Series AFAIK. PS, What colour is your DL LTD ? |
