Hey guys
I might of renewed my interest in building my motor again as no one out there seems to have the rolling to buy my block and rotating assembly lol So anyway what i've got left is my DART 4.125" bore Sportsman block, SCAT 3.4" forged stroker crank and SCAT 5.4" forged I beam rods I did have set of 205cc AFR's that were going on it but they were sold off few months ago so now looking at different options again I came across the CHI 208cc 3V heads on there site with there matching inlet manifold for 8.2" deck height blocks and was wondering what your thoughts are on running these For those that don't know them here's there site {DESCRIPTION} I also sold off the SRP forged flat tops i had and am now looking at getting some replacements I came across Diamond series dome tops and was wondering if anyone has used these yet or heard what there like I'd like to get answer on heads query over next couple days as going to buy whatever heads i choose within next day or two cheers

I had a set of 185's on my cleveland and they were great!
Diamond make very good pistons. |

From what i've read on different sites i have to agree that the Diamond pistons are the right choice for this motor
I have just found out that it is real easy to take these motors out to 380cu/i by using a 4.155 piston and 3.5" stroke crank so will be looking at getting my crank ground to these new specs I have no doubt that the CHI are brilliant heads, my main concern is if they are the best units for this build? Motor will be running 630+ lift roller cam so will be spinning to around 7500-8000 rpm so just want to make sure i have the right stuff bolted to motor first time around

The CHI heads and manifold are very nice pieces, and will work well with the cubes you will get from that bore and stroke combo. JE and SRP do an off-the-shelf piston for 4.125" bore and 3.400" stroke, for 364 cubes. HOWEVER, they are made for the windsor head/valve location. You will need a set of custom pistons to suit the cleveland valve locations, especially with the big lift cam you want to use. Don't stress, custom pistons are only a small pecentage more expensive than a shelf item, depending on what you require.
Good luck, and PM me if you need any more help. This short stroke/big bore combo will make good HP and torque, plus it will rev it's a*** off.

Couple of the boys on the US sites reckon the 208cc heads will be too small
They think the Edelbrock Victor Glidden or TFS 245 High port heads would be a better choice Guess i'm not buying heads today, i need to sit down and do some more research

My 427 will be running Trickflow 225cc Alloys, They flow best part of 550hp stock, and will be ported. It is an option, but then you need special pistons for the Trickflow heads, as the valves are canted.

John Kasse uses them almost exclusively which says alot.
Why do they say 208cc is not enough? and if not CHI has many others that would suit....the new C400 is a wicked head. The CHI stuff is better than anything the Yanks have. |

C400 is a brilliant head i agree but can't be used as there is no manifold to suit it with an 8.2 deck height block
The only manifolds they make to suit the 8.2" deck block is for the 185 and 208 heads I rung Kostecki's up in Perth today and they can CNC the CHI head out to whatever i need so there's an option, just need to get manifold matched also I nearly bought the Edelbrock Gliddens this arvo but decided not to jump the gun and talk to few people first

They flow 400cfm!! The CHI208 seems a good choice, with enough flow to make 700+ hp. 340cfm seems pretty good for the 208cc head.

The 208 would be good for sure but what are you after? What sort of power and torque and over what rev range?

Motor will be going into an AU project that will be a strictly weekender and also take to strip for some fun
It will be manual (more than likely) and i want to keep revs to around 7500-8000 so that should give me a solid cam range from 3000-3500 and up

The 225 3V with the intake hogged to suit would work but I would still use the 208. You wouldn't catch me going to kostastacki though.

If your going 380ci and u have a look on AFR225cc head flow graph it will suit as ur running a solid roller and pulling 8000rpm but to be perfectly honest id go a AFR205cc with hydrolic roller.
CHI heads are awsome and i say if ur game enough to do something different go for it as it will make big hp numbers with the 208 3V, only disadvantage in this equation is it going to cost u more money but ur definatly going to make more hp. AND THAT MY FRIEND IS A GANRENTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

It will actually cost less to go with CHI's.
