That doesn't really matter anyway. Want to know the best bang for your buck? Ditch that flat black plastic thing immediately above your throttle body and stick a 3" rubber elbow with custom intake pipe work to your air filter box. Send a PM to sourbastard, he owns a 3V Fairlane and did the same to his. Ditch your cast iron exhaust manifolds and get a set of decent extractors and a twin 2.5" exhaust. After you do these, then get that CAPA flasher. Believe me(and others on the net) these mods will really wake your 3V up. There are a few guys with the same motor on these forums who will find this thread and give their personal views on what brings out the best on this very under-rated engine. |

You don't have an idea These motors with the mods I mentioned are capable of propelling a 1800kg Falcon into the 12s. No playing with cams, pulling off heads etc etc, just bolt on stuff and tweaking the tune. As I said, these motors are very under-rated. |

Hmm yes, perhaps I should just go and find a XB wagon, no make that a XD or XE Ghia sedan, put on a better airfilter, extractors and exhaust, rejet the standard carby and then chuck some ballast in to make the thing weigh 1800 or so kilos. I doubt you would see 12s. Compare apples with apples. Clevos are great engines no doubt about it but so are these 3V mod V8s too.

All depends on what you want and how much you're willing to spend. The standard mods are CAI, full exhaust, under drives and a tune. Then depending what you want out of the car you can put 4.11 diff gears and a 3000 stallie, and of course a trans cooler. That setup will make a 3v a monster
As for the Boss intake plenum, they wont fit unfortunately and there is no after market manifolds available. A 3v really does need a better manifold on them, the plenum sits right above the block where its nice and hot :/ |

All that stuff is available, Comp Cams have a range of cams to suit the VCT, but it's just big money rebuilding an engine.

Yeah now that all mustangs come out with 3V heads on their 4.6L, the aftermarket is looking better as far as cams are concerned. Sullivan in the USA have some nice old school inlets for the Boss 4V so its a shame that they don't cater (yet) for the 3V owner. Time will tell..
Way off topic but imagine one of these in a nice light bodied XT-XE Falcon: |

Would you like to show us what was done and at what cost, it is all fine and dandy talking about it, but that 9 second XY would hardly be anything like what came out of the factory, close to 500kg less weight and grumpier than a 50yr old prostitute with the 100th dose of the clap. 1800kg+ B series fitted with a 3V with exhaust, intake and tune mods doing 12's could hardly called grumpy, it would be hard to find an old N/A Ford V8 without big cubes pushing 1800kg to 12s without being at least a little grumpy. Personally I am over having a grumpy shaking car, sitting in Sydney traffic jams 15yrs ago was enough for me, today it would be worse, fine for a Sunday car but it s**t me to tears feeling like I am on a $2 vibrating bed in a seedy motel.

Of course the stock 3V intake is the main reason they have excellent torque right off idle...I would cut it up and port it if I was after an increase in outright flow.
I'd like a long runner intake like the 3V on my Superpursuit.....the Boss 302 is a dog down low....ha ha I wonder if they mean't to make it a torqueless dog like the old Boss 302 namesake!? |

How old are you? Do you realise that even with 4.11s fitted the total rpm would be less than 2400rpm at 100km due to overdrive, so tell me how it would make it a pos to drive around the "streets"? With just 3.23 ratio fitted without overdrive using a standard height Falcon tyre, it would nearly give you 2700rpm, been there done that, it is shocking on the hwy.
