Howdy,
Was speaking to a reputable workshop this morning about performance mods for the EL. Car has standard E7's and HO manifold with Genie headers and a good exhaust and has done around 130k's. They suggested a switch chip and custom tune, K&N (or similar) filter in the standard box with a better snorkle and a 70mm MAF. All this fitted and tuned for 1600-1700 clams. They quoted an expected figure of 200-210hp atw? (about 210 fwkw). Thoughts?? Does that seem possible to you more knowledgable lads? (I am just a little bit unsure as to whether this is realistic.) If it's close, that is pretty cheap horsepower! They further went on to say that with an explorer mani and GT40p's added on top of the work above, it would see about 250 atw's. Would those mods make a 250kw windsor?

150rwkw would be achievable with the chip on the stock E7s and HO manifold.
I'm currently running GT40P heads and Explorer manifold all match ported with 1.7 ratio roller rockers and the AU 220kw cam. I'm still running stock ECU (EL 2 XR8 185kw), MAF and TB. I think even without the chip I should be making 150rwkw now. With a chip and tune and larger MAF and TB you'd be able to squeeze 180-190 rwkw out of it. |

Ported GT40s, match ported Explorer, 65-70mm T/Body, 24lb injectors, camshaft and a tune will get you there.

With the Tweecer, underdrives, MAF, headers, highflow cats and exhaust, on my series 1 EL XR8 I got 211rwhp which is about what you've been quoted. So that is possible.
For the second part, ^^^what he said^^^ Finally, when you say reputable, be careful, as those who are meant to be reputuble, aren't necessarily, especially if they leave someone whose not as competent as they sould be to work on your car!

I suggest PM'ing a couple of people (Scaffy & XH5LTWPN included) who have used them...

Anyone got suggestions for the best place in Perth to get this sort of work done? I guess at the moment, I don't really need an engine builder, but a really good tuner! (although the engine builder will come )

'Really good FORD tuner' in Perth is a hard one to answer... I'd suggest speaking to Simon at Xtreme Ford Tuning, but whether he has the capabilities to tune an E-series I'm not too sure.

Is it Ovaboost that do the EMS 8860? If so, does anyone know or has anyone had them do a tune on a 5.0 Windsor?

Ovaboost = Ovenroast (jks)
Seriously though... I'm not sure, I've not heard of Mick and the crew tuning an E-series. Having said that, any aftermarket ECU in the right hands will have no problem running your engine. Also, a good tuner shouldn't 'care' what engine it is, regardless of manufacturer, they all need fuel, air and spark at the right time.
