get some water in there while the engine is running. Acts like a steam cleaner thanks to the compression.
I'm sure someone can give you the exact procedure.. you don't want to hydraulic!

i have the engine apart, and the pistons out of the engine, so i was wondering if like soaking them in petrol, and using a dishwashing scourer or something to clean it off? im not too sure how prone to scratches/ weakness from the petrol, and scourer

Heads on or or off..If on? What we did years ago squirt 2 stroke or upper cylinder lube into carb / inlet till it nearly stopped then left it a while...Start it up and at hi idle and inject water into carb/ inlet..Then take out on road in lower gears. The oil softens carbon and the water takes it away..The hi rpm drive gets rid of it..We did this on slow drivers cars that came in all carboned up...Said it was the only place that fixed their cars....
If heads off wash with carb cleaner...

This is no use to you because you have disassembled your motor but is about the use of 2 stoke oil as a carbon cleaner. I use two stroke oil to keep clean the top end on my Harleys. I add a cap full of Penrite 2 stroke oil to a full fuel tank about every 5000 kilometres. A very experienced fitter/motorcycle enthusiast put me onto it about fifteen years ago. I pulled an Harley Evolution motor down at about 150 000 which I had religousy oiled/cleaned and the combustion chamber, valves and piston crown were cleaner than other examples I have repaired. There was no "lip" at the top of the bore at the extent of piston travel, plugs are always clean as well. Have also done a plug chop from about 140kmh and they are fine, no carboning from the oil. An engineer I work with told me that this top end lubricant (flashlube) is only so muchwhite spirit and 2 stroke oil. He has 5 pre unleaded vehichles and makes his own top end lube with Tolulene and two stoke oil.

well why do u want to clean the carbon off ur pistons some people say its actually good to keep it on as it helps keep the compression up as parts wear which makes sence and the carbon doesnt really hurt anything unless its getting hot spots and getting detiation which is unlikely unless its a high stressed engine

it doesnt really have too much carbon on it, just mainly stained with a few little chunks here and there, my pistons have only done 1500 ks so there pretty new, im just really wanting my engine to "be new" when i build it, as everything else is clean and tidy.
so what does this bloke mix to make his own lube? sounds like an interesting topic |
