Ok i've had a stalling first start problem and a rough idle. I cleaned the maf senser and ISC and it fixed the starting problem. However the idle is still a bit rough.
Also when i had the ISC off I noticed that the throttle body was full of gunk, i slipped my little finger into one of the holes that the ISC uses and when i pulled it out it was painted black. Anyways I was about to take the throttle body off and clean it but there is a sticker on it that says not to clean the throttle body. Can you clean it? How do you clean it without stuffing things up? thanks

Ignore the sticker. Get a can of throttle body cleaner and give it good spray out... she'll be right.

heh sounds good, do i remove the entire unit? or just spray it whilst it's on there? must it dry out completely before starting?

It's possible to do while on the car but I'd recommend taking it off to do it properly, that way you can get behind the butterfly properly. be careful not to tear the gaskets when removing it (they're not cheap).

can't you just make your own gasket? i haven't got a V8 so i don't know if they are anything special, whats the go with them?

With the factory ones the gasket that sits between the manifold and EGR is thicker and has a tar content (I think that's what it is), I presume for reduced heat transfer. The gasket that sits between the EGR and the throttle body is just normal gasket card. It is possible to cut your own yes however if you are going to continue to run EGR normally there's a bit of mucking around when cutting around the jackets. I had to cut my own as I'm runing an Edelbrock 70mm.

Thats just rediculous, i thought it would just be normal gasket paper.

Well, I don't know that it's all that necessary but that's what they do - I've had no noticible probs using normal gasket fabric for both, I didn't have any choice in any case.

i'm going to have a go at cleaning it first without taking it off as the gasket looks really brittle.

I know that you've got an eb v8 andy, but i had an eb 1 s pac multipoint six with idle problems *wouldnt idle* and had same problem, crap in the intake. i used carby cleaner in it (does throttle bodies too) and cleaned it when the engine was running and off too but yeah had no problems with it. whats others thoughts on this?

cleaned it, wouldn't start very well at first, there was a lot of crap in it, didn't get it all because i didn't take it off the car, but the thing is idleing worse now, i've checked the hose clamp and its fine, maybe it just needs to dry out better???

Standard gasket paper is fine. When we fitted the RPM II and the AU TB to mine, just made some gaskets up, was a peice of cake, was going to put genuine ones on but havent been bothered to change them.
As for you car running worse, where do you think all that crap went. It is now in your engine and will take a while to be burnt/blown out the exhaust, but it should clear up with time. Brett
