i am after a water pump for my about to be rebuilt 400. i've tried my usually helpful auto shop, but they couldn't seem to match it. it was more to do with the bolt holes than anything. maybe their supplier doesn't do one?? anyway i've tried two other mainstream auto shops. one had a rather cheap looking alloy one for $100 odd, and the other had a silverline cast one that was awfully close to mine (read nearly identical) for about $125. my gut is telling me the cast one (even turning the rotor/impellor felt better than the alloy one, which was quite stiff). is silverline any good, and is it too dear. there are pumps out there on ebay, but if they are $90 bucks with frieght on top it gets bloody close to the otheres and a lot harder to send it back if its wrong or fails. for reference i am in the Newcastle area., i am not interested in a $300+ edelbrock job either. i'd look at going electric if i could afford that. any sugegestions?

Get a GMB brand alloy pump if you don't want an Edelbrock but, an Edelbrock is well worth the money.
I would use an Edelbrock pump over an electric pump any day.

I have used the Silverline ones before, and no probs. Make sure you use good coolant after running in. Don't run in a new engine with coolant in it, just water. If the block has been cleaned in acid or hot caustic, it will come out of the block into the water, making it slimey. You also need to fit a "radiator sock".....to catch crap out off the block...stop it clogging the radiator cores.
Flush clean water though every 2nd day.
After about 2 weeks, you can put coolant in it, at the right concentration.

if its a standard cleveland block stroked out to 400 i cant understand why any clevo water pump wont fit i run a CSR electric water pump bolts straight up.

to be more specific, my original speed shop's ( a specialist not repco etc) stocked pump didn't have all the holes around the outside. this is a bit bizarre as the two mentioned from the others had them. and no it is not a stroked cleveland. it is a 351m-400, but this shouldn't matter as i have been told they are still listed the same. a bit odd. it is at the moment a 403 i believe (bored +40). again it is strange as the speed shop has been around a while and seem to know what they are talking about and came recommended. any help is greatly appreciated
