Why the fuss over the cobra manifold? spend a couple of dollars more and go aftermarket..
If you wanna stick with Ford OEM, look at The GT40 Tubular manifold.. yum

Waggin fleeced me out of $800 of my hard earned for a cobra manifold which thanks to work commitments I won't be able to find time to fit until after X-mas now, even though my parts have arrived from the US of A to finish the job , all I can do is look at it teasing me sitting on the shelf

Will the rest of my stock bits like fuel rails etc fit straight onto Explorer / Cobra style manifolds? Or do they need to fitted with their own rails?
Also, are there different types of Explorer and Cobra manifolds from different year Mustangs that do or do not fit straight on Aussie engines?

All rails etc fit.. Even with aftermarket inlet the std rails etc fit...If U.S throttle body is fitted some slight mods are required ...As they enter from different side...
Explorer have there intake temp on the inlet tube / air cleaner, so you'll need an AU style senser and fit nr throttle body inlet tube..Though aircleaner would be o/k...

I like plug & play. Mind you I know that there are say, Cobra manifolds such as a 1993 model which seems to flow slightly differently to 1994 / 95 model Cobra manifolds. Are all Cobra / Explorer manifolds no matter what year Mustand they went into, able to bolt straight onto ours? Or are there design differences if they came off an 80's model Mustang?

Phark me!!
The Cobra came out in 93 and another model in 95 from then on they went modular V8's in Mustangs..From then on we sourced our engines from a truck...Explorer..It'll fit bought one and sold it to a happy guy in S.A ...I hope????

There isn't much..The Cobra flows slightly more.... Explorer requires external EGR thats about it.... Oh and external inlet temp senser....

Yeah thats it, the Cobra flows an average of 212cfm per runner compared with 188cfm for the Explorer.

Looking at the lower intake off a Cobra I can see the ports are round in shape as opposed to the rectangular ports on the Explorer lower intake. Just for my knowledge, how do the round ports of the lower Cobra intake mate to GT40P heads which from memory are rectangular?

I think the lower intake has round ports where the upper and lower intake meet up and then then change to square to meet up with the heads.

Thats it, the manifold to head ports are rectangular. The lower for the Explorer, Cobra and GT40 are all the same basic casting (however some have different sensor ports and EGR). |
