My coil pack is a bit weak so i need a new one. Ford want 457 for one, ive gone to bursons and autoban both around the 50 dollar mark. Called up ford to check I was looking at the same thing and seems i was. Why is the Ford one so much more expensive? - its for an EF 5.0L. Ive ordered the one from bursons.

Because it’s Ford or Fraud parts

They wanted $385 for leads for my car
$175 for top and bottom Rad hoses
$1100 for a radiator

I could go on.

good point, i did pay 18 dollars for a new drainage bolt for my oil sump - thats one expensive bolt. actually, thats for a plastic washer as well, makes that price so much more justifiable!

Ford have always been 5 - 10 times more expensive than aftermarket. The good thing is that a lot of the parts that our cars go through can easily and cheaply replaced by aftermarket items.

they also often tell you not to trust the aftermarket equivelent.

i actually recently came accross a part that was cheaper for genuine that non genuine. the sender unit for the oil light on eb 5.0. only by a couple of dollars though. $10ish from ford. bout $12 from sprints. wouldn't be too many of these situations though.

having said that if you get on well with your dealer and build up a bit of a relationship you can get looked after. that also may be why the ford part was cheaper as i get on pretty good with the guy in spare parts.

Now a coil and coil pack are 2 different things mate, EF 5.0 runs a dizzy and coil where the 6 runs a coil pack without dizzy.
I think you'll find they had it wrong, maybe quoting you on an AU 5.0 coil pack.
Call them back and ask for an ignition coil for an EF 5.0 and see if they quote the same.

i bought a coil a few weeks ago, after market from my parts boys, 3 weeks waiting-fresh off the assy.line, no one had one here, and fraud 2-3 days from melb. but i wanted a spare, so ok-$45 but thats my price.the 10-12 year parts francise is over and the manufacturers who supply ford can release their parts on the open market. you can buy a lot of parts if your parts shop want to look-i get parts from 1929 -2006 on most cars,ford-gm-mopar.

i just bought one from bursons today, i had called the guy back at ford after getting the quotes that were 1/10th the price of their one to make sure we were talking the same thing, he seemed to think we were talking about the same part at least, he was the one that tested it so i can only guess he knew what was going on, seemd ridiculous tho doesnt it!

Always check Ford though, some parts are cheaper than Bursons and Repco even at trade.
Going back a few years ago i had a customer with an EA S, they bought new belts and i think a rad hose from Ford at retail price, i got a price from Bursons and it was actually more expensive than Ford, even at trade price.
