Hi all,
Just wanting a bit of advice on what else i will need ect and that. I am thinking of converting my manual au xr6 to a v8 from a au ghia fairlane parts car. these are the things i know i need to do, The fairlane is a auto so i know i need a different 5 speed box as the input needs to be longer. The engine loom, is it just plug and play or is there more to it? I was just going to swap the whole k-frame so no issues there with engine mounts ect. Im sure there is more to it, Thanks for the help! |

Thanks, i didn't think about the bell housing side of it.
what would the "new" ecu have to be because the auto fairlane one wouldn't work??? whats easier swapping the engine and k frame or just doing a engine swap |

The ECU thatv is in the Fairlane is auto, you will require a manual ECU.
What series is the ? Your XR is series 1. Is your XR Smartlock or Smartshield? |

AU V8 ECU. XR8 ECU would be best.
I'm not 100% sure of the compatability of the Series 1.5 ECU with the II/III ECU. Maybe someone else can shed light on this. |

Is it possible to convert a xr8 auto ecu to manual, i remember people saying it could be done but i am not sure. be near impossible to find a manual xr8 ecu. plenty of auto ones though.

The Manual ECU's are around - theyre just Auto ECU's with manual code.
One member on here will re-flash your ECU to manual for you for a few $$ - and TI Performance J3 chips can also be used to change an ECU from Manual, to Auto, or the other way - total cost about $130. Doing either of these, you can remove smartlock, or smartshield anyway so compatibility with your current immobiliser isnt important. Unlike the Earlier falcons, the AU ECU's have the drivers for the Auto in the manual ECU's. Im running a Manual ECU atm with my 200kw 5.0 EL/Auto - works great (Im running an AU ECU) |

Alright so I have been chatting to a feller that seems to know his falcons and he said to get it all to work I will have to swap bcm and dash because the v8 loom is different. I didn't think he was right but his adamant that his right. Which would be a massive pain in the backside. What's your thoughts on this?
Starting to sound not as simple as swapping the engine and loom lol. |

im 99% sure they're the same
As long as you have an ecu harness from the same series it should unplug and plug in If your smart lock then the bcm will work that is already there. If You are smart shield its easier to get a j3 chip and disable The immobiliser Nigel |

Ok cool,
The xr has got smart shield (being series 1.5) so is the fairlane. I would have to do the j3 chip option i think. Were is the best place to pick them up from? Thanks for the help |

J3 chips from tiperformance. They're a forum sponsor at www.tiperformance.com.au
They can give you a j3 chip that will use the fair lane ecu but run it as xr8 manual code if you want Nigel |
