hi guy as the title explains. im thinking of steering a very new direction with my xr8. iv gained re-interest in the old girl recently. and instead of trying to turbo it which so far has turned out just to be a money pit. it at least open up my options a little. ive been listening to some of te sound clips etc with the t3 engine and some of the boys 347's and have just fallen in love.
so im basically asking what sort of prices to expect on having a decent 331 or 347 built. i have a au220kw engine in my ef at the moment. so would i be able to possibly re-use ony of those parts. gt40p heads ported to au3 220 spec. explorer intake etc. i have a 75mm pro pruducts tb and a plugged egr allerady . any help would be greatly appreaciated. jagga

Both capacities cost about the same to do. I've been advised by a engine guru to go the 347 for my setup.

Count on $10,000 ~ $15,000 for a good quality stroker build. Also, by good quality I mean not with any Pro Comp parts!

Or you could build a 351 Roller for about the same. My total so far is 5900( including 1200 total in freight ) with out assembly, mind you i already had the heads.

Hi there Brett,
Did you find that the 351 was a better option?, also been told the 51 was 60kgs heavier, is that true?. Was going to go that way as there is alot of 351 roller blocks on ebay for sale!. What are your thoughts on that mate?. Cheers, Jason. |

depends on your goals and how fussy you are with buying top level parts
im building a 363 Windsor hopefully by end of this year and ive budgeted $25,000 but im building a complete motor using none of the currant engines parts. lol at the pro crap remark

This will show me what fits and what doesn't. I will be reusing the top end kit on the 427, so they were parts i needed or had anyway. They may be 60Kg heavier, but both of my heads weigh less than one GT40P, so i think it may be swings and roundabouts. 25K is a good budget for a 363, but for that money you could build a 351 stroker based engine(393,408 or 427). Really the only difference is the deck height, and when it comes down to it, a 363 is a big overbore, with little room in the future for a rebuild. Brett

Brett i had thaught bout the bigger cubes, hell i even have a BA bulge bonnet going on witch would help with the deck height but it just seemed easier to go the 363ci and the sportsman block can go out to 4.185 bore and still not break through so DART tell me.

Brett, Millard is right, the Dart blocks, even in the 4.125" bore, have a lot of meat there for later overbores.
Jagga, definately budget $15,000 for a stroker build, that should allow for some decent alloy heads aswell. Although i wouldnt build a 347 on a std block, i think 331 is alot less brutal on the std block.

One thing I have found is to use quality pistons that can run a tight bore clearance for the power levels..
Then spend the time and $$ with as neutral balance as you can esp std block... Though my engine is built for forced induction.. The bore clearance is tighter on mine than most N/A engines.. Mine has wide ring gap clearance though.. Check U.S sites for specials on quality parts .. They are having a hard time over there and some parts are being sold off at blooody good prices...
