due to a recent thread about a dunnydore engine into a ford (i know right) and the idea of a coyote coming in instead (genius am i right) so i thought i would research this engine a bit ive known about it for a bit but you know learning some more might be a good idea

i ran into some news that fords XR8 and new FPV GT was going to be powered by a supercharged coyote immediately the idea of just using a XR8's/FPV GT motor that has the supercharged coyote and putting all the wiring and computer etc into the NF instead of going through all the cost of the T56 and the forged internal rebuild and the cost of the supercharger and then getting it all certified etc(and plus thats been done before)

so im wondering will this motor physically fit in my engine bay (i hear its actually very small and light)

and im guessing this motor change would have to get engineered but i wouldnt have to go through every single painful ADR rule in the universe and the stupid CO2 laws so im hoping this may actually turn out cheaper and probably more powerful than the original plan to totally redo my entire motor then its also a V8 (cant beat the V8 sound) and apparently a pretty eco V8 (sounds like a winner)

now i know im not going to be able to pick up a coyote in a while ive got roughly 2yrs to wait till im off my P's anyway by then FTG should of had one come in

I should really make you show us the minimum of $15,000 you have handy to blow on you car before wasting my time, but anyway...

If you had the money your options are:
a) buy a wrecked FG GS/GT and have fun getting an FG ecu to work in your car. Not sure how much these would go for but can't see it being cheap.
b) cheaper option; buy an N/A coyote from the states with PCM control kit. You will be looking at around $10,000 to get one from the states here, then whatever you can get a t56 for to match. Unless you have atleast $15,000 I don't think you will get one in your car and engineered even doing all the work yourself.

As far as actually fitting it to an NF, will not be easy. You will need a custom sump and have to pray that a BA/BF modular oil pick up fits onto a coyote (as stock coyote has a rear sump). A BA/BF modular sump won't fit as the coyote is longer at the front due to the vct. Remembering that the E series have a tighter fit around the sump it would probably need to be a work of art.

If you are running an FG supercharged engine will in all likelyhood need more bonnet clearance. From memory the N/A engines aren't that big vertically and should get under the bonnet.

LSx is a very viable option, could easily be done under $10,000 due to availability of second hand parts. Will be a while before any of the blown coyotes are comparable in value....I was seriously considering a coyote, but a house is a better option. Also remember your brakes, diff etc...hardly like you would spend this much on the engine without atleast a 4/2 brake set up or KAAZ lsd.

imagine what 15 grand can achieve on the single cam 4.0 litre with a super charger or turbo and some internals head work etc, much easier and much more fun i reckin

coyote seems to have a tin sump, cut it horizontally all the way around reverse it then re weld, pickup can be modified, rest of conversion would be similar to any other modern engine swap, PCM from ford racing doesnt have security enabled and is designed for conversions, you wont see change from 20g though!

Get an AU with IRS...or atleast a SWB E series.

I would recommend an AU though, will also make it easier to fit in the engine bay with regard to K frame clearance. Once you have to play with the K frame engineering gets a lot more expensive.

I am curious to see whether you could use a US PCM with the supercharged engine and get the tune played with (to save having to muck around with an FG ecu until you can get it to work). In saying that if you don't use a standard ECU chances are you will need an emissions test.

With regards to the sump I would just make one or get a custom one made up; in the grand scheme of things will only be a tiny proportion of expenses.

With regard to dreamer thread/my original post...I hope you do carry on with it, will be good to know I haven't wasted breath (metaphorically). I'm sure you can appreciate the bucket load of similar questions that get asked and never carried out though 8-)

The Ford racing PCM can be reflashed and there is also a supercharger kit which, btw is much better than the poxy non-intercooled harrop thing on the GT.
