xr8 chic uses this cam, and with 185s and perf rpm intake. ask her what it's like.

Good cam, not that lumpy and ideally used with 1.72 ratio rockers.

As said, great cam and will work fine with stock auto stall. It is suppose to idle nicely but some people (mainly later madel ie AU's) have idle problems.

Yeah - good cam.
As EBXR8380 says - upgrade your springs!!! (and make sure the upgraded ones actually get into the engine, and not in someones tool chest). I had a few idle problems (as in the fact that it wouldnt idle at all - but I was running stock manifold, and ported E7 heads at the time).. but it was sorted out with a reprogram of the unichip.

I have had that cam in my car XR for 3.5 years now.
She was my daily driver till last christmas, when I killed the motor again... and had to buy another car while she was getting rebuilt. so yeah - its good for a daily driver.

Why do AUs have idle problems with the 2031?

Don't know why, obviously something in their EEC programming. |

Maybe its the same reason why ED's have idle problems with it.
most cars I know with cams have idle problems. It just hunts a bit - no biggy

I also know 3 others running 2031/2030 cams in their E-series V8's and they idle fine too so I think it's just hit and miss. Even if they idle bad, there are always ways to get the idle back to normal, just have to find out why. |

Bassically with bigger cams they need MORE air to idle and need to idle slightly higher..The old method around this was to drill a hole in butterfly..Notice std 55mm had a hole in b/f but my Cobra 65mm didn't...The other way around this is to open throttle position and adjust tps back to under 1v koeo..Too low rpm means low vacuum which plays havoc with eec, it thinks its under load with low vacuum then corrects causing surge....Right Pete ?

yep... mine was relatively easy to fix (just took my tuner a few attempts to get it perfect). Used to be good fun, as I could recognise when the car was going to stall, and correct it. but anyone else who tried to drive the car would stall it a few times. hehehe

Also how is the 2030 compared to the 2031... as the crane 2030 uses 1.6 ratio rockers therefor less valve guide wear... |
