i have a 302 Windsor with 289 heads its going into my 65' XP Falcon.
just wondering if there is another way other than a cross-member for engineer's? ie manufacturing just engine mounts to suit. clearly my car is a 170 pursuit at the moment. thanks if i haven't explained this very well please let me know. |

I assume the issue is that XP's don't have full cross member and you want to fit a V8 ??
Try or check latter model Falcon or CRS in Vic...

Neither does my Cougar and it's a factory big block. What's the problem?

well all i have been told is that putting in a v8 means engineers will look at it and say that the chassis needs to strengthened.
so for an old car other than buying a complete kit which i have just found out brand new engine mounts and crossmembers are 650-800 bucks. so either trying to find second hand ones. or another alternative if there is anything, like getting one made or modifiying another to suit. thanks |

You could just make something but, remember that these cars were V8 powered in the U.S. and they didn't do anything different there. In fact aussie falcons were beefed up by Ford Australia after they had durability problems with the first XK Falcons.
Btw, doesn't yours have a removable crossmember like my Cougar had? |

Thanks for the info xr9ute.
To be honest i have no idea if it has a removable cross member.. its a standard 170 pursuit 65 XP. all this engine mounting is relatively new to me. sorry. this is why i ask questions before i jump in the deep end with my car so i have some knowledge. |

That's the one off my cougar but every XP I've seen has one and the 5.0 powered XK and XM that I worked on had them but I'm unsure if they just got one off an XP.
Pretty easy to make one too, although I take the opportunity to make a stronger version that picks up off more the just two points. btw that Total control right hook rack actually replaces the one in my Cougar. |
