Ok peoples im about to purchase a dart block, ive got the money saved up. Its for my EL Fairmont ghia 5.0L.
What i wanted to know is, would the 351 dart block fit comfortably and still be able to bolt all the accesserys up? Cause if buy the 351 block I can stoke it to 400 cubes. Not sure, what are peoples thoughts? Other option ive been looking at, its 347 cubes with a dart block. Both engines will have a vortech blower. Parts so far is, 8.1 comp pistons, trickflow cnc ported R series heads - 225cc inlet runners. And manifold is either going to be a trickflow box R or a edelbrock victor jnr with an 90 degree adapter plate for the throttle body... Depends on what block i get really, as the box r wont fit with the 351 as it sits to high.... Ive also got a 150hp nos kit........

I would go for the world block. The extra head bolts would come in handy if you wanted to up the boost heaps. You could try a BA bulge have a look at terroristGHIA's el it looks pretty sweet.

There are no heads available to use those bolts, also the fact the threads are 1/2" down from the deck means you need longer studs in some applications. Also world doesn't have screw in welsh plugs, I am not sure if the dart does? I still chose world for the head bolt holes, they will release heads for it but I wouldn't think we will see them in the next 5 years, I've had a chat with someone who knows people in that company, they are not even looking into it yet according to him. Squeak-you said you already have pistons? or is that just the plan? Don't forget you can bore these blocks up to .200 thou, you can get up to 460cu.in from the 351W block, but headgasket gets a bit thin between bores? |

If you go for a 351 block and victor junior manifold with elbow to adapt
the throttle body you will definately have bonet clearance issues. I have the standard 302 block in my EL, with a parker performance manifold which is nearly identical to the victor junior with a 90 degree elbow to the throttle body, and when I shut the bonet it hits the TPS. |

thinking of getting a 351 block for my ED same price. The 9.5"(351W) block appears obviously bigger than the 9.2"(351C) in my XE engine bay, I think it would fit into an E series easily but as already mentioned you would have heaight issues, and probably not much space for pipes. |

Speak to pete, XR9UTE, he has a 351W in his EB. They fit, but it is tight for pipes, and hood clearance

Squeak,
No I don't have one in my EB it's in my XE but most of it is directly tranferable. Have a look at the "351w into XE" post....I've got lots of photos that show what goes on with the accessories. Ive worked on a few 351 powered E-series cars so it does fit and amazingly so do XR-XY tri-Y headers. Of course you'll need custom headers for those big heads anyway. I'd go the Trick flow 351-R intake with the box upper and to hell with bonnet clearance. You still may be hard pressed to fit a Vic Jnr with Elbow too. I say if you're going to spend the money on an aftermarket block you may as well get one that can take as much cubes as a big block. Besides the price is the same. Pete. |

They are both as common in the US, parts are same price, if anything the 5.0 parts are cheaper most mustangs have the 5.0's.

Yeah much of a muchness for price.
It is cheaper to build a 392ci 351w than it is to build a 347ci 302w though. You only need to buy the 3.85" stroke crank and then std 302 compression height pistons to go on the stock 351 rods. Pete. |

Say I bought the dart 351 block, how does fitment go? I.e engine mounts and box mounts? Is eerything in the same location? Will all my accesiors still bolt on fine? Custon exhaust is no problem. And how much hood clearance would I have with the 351 block?
Cause want to run the trickflow box r manifold.

Cause want to run the trickflow box r manifold. Just remember this; A smallblock is a smallblock is a smallblock. That means engine mounts and boltpatterns are all the same(unless you have a pre-'65 smallblock which had a 5 bolt bellhousing pattern. My post about 351w into XE tells you about the accessories. The question is how much bonnet interference will you have?....a 351 is vertically 3" taller than a 302 plus the 12odd inches of TFS-R or Victor 5.8 EFI intake. |
