Hey guys just after your opions on the defilippo extractors and exhaust system for my XR8 ute has anyone got or used there system maybe able to give me feed back?
Only reason I ask is my sister inlaw works for express publications (hot4's street commadore etc) may be able to get me a system cheep. I usually would just go to the local muffler shop I use and go with gennies and what ever system he recomends but I've herd defilippo aren't too bad and herrod did use them for a while. So any input would be appriciated

I dont know what sort of V8 you have, If its a E-series windsor the di-filippo extractors are much better than pacies as they have 1 3/4 primarys and a 3" collector allowing you to use a 3 inch cat for better flow. I'm gonna get a set when i can afford the $895 price tag

You will get mixed feelings about extractors and exhuast systems, however I'm of the view that Generally bigger is better, thus my prefence for the di-filippo ones. Di-fillipo Tuned length Primary 1 3/4" Collector 3" Stainless steel construction Pacemaker tuned length PH4006 Primary 1 5/8 Collector 2 1/2" Mild steel with pipe over cone tecnology

If bigger is better wouldn't we all be following the ricers are going for 6" cannon mufflers then? Which extractors are better also depends on where your looking for improvements in power. |

Difilippo is good gear. You'll get s/steel extractors, s/steel high flow cats and cat back system (your choice of mild or s/steel) all painted with flame proof paint, all mandrel bent and ready to bolt on to your ute. Roughly $1350-$1400 I think for my EL 6 cyl when I was looking towards them (mild steel cat back). Bit pricey but as everyone says, it's good gear.

Well if 6" cannon mufflers are your thing then so be it. however I was refering to extractors. My opinion is that the 5.0 windsor produces ample torque as it is. By putting 1 3/4" primary, tuned length extractors on such an engine will not result in anny noticable loss of torque. That is ofcourse my opinion, I'll leave you to play with ur 6" cannon.

The bigger is better theory is only good for very high rpm. The torque loss from going to 1 3/4" primaries is cnsiderable and easily noticable. Even 1 5/8" primaries seem to be a bit big seeing some of the stroker engines are getting better results from even smaller 1.5" primaries, so if the strokers don't need it I doubt if a 5L needs it.

Untill you go out and buy 2 sets of extractors, one with 1 1/2" primarys and the other with 1 3/4" primarys, and dyno them both. I will stick by my opinion that 1 3/4 is better. Luke

Luke Has been done and I have seen the dyno graphs. I was of the same opinion that surely on the stroker engines the bigger primaries would be better, but they weren't. The small primary tri-y's produced nearly 5kw more peak as well as more power over the entire rev range compared witht he defilipo 1 3/4" 4 into 1's. One other point worth making is that high end power really doesn't help acceleration that much, its all in the low and midrange band. I would happily trade 5kw peak power for 2-3kw through the midrange. |

Post the dyno graphs up and i'd love to take a non biased look at them. Were they from the same car? were they on the same dyno?

A lot would do with the size of the exhaust ports too. The E7's wouldn't make use of the big diameters - but the AFR 185 like mine would.
