Hah, that was my old car... it was bought as a present to me... i never much liked it... it was pretty quick though... and handled like it was on rails.

It ran 15.4 -15.6

15.5? I'm impressed.

Turbo?

The car only weighed 950kgs.... It was worked, Flat-Top Racing pistons... stage 2 cam... Larger injectors, aftermarket ECU, Extractors 2.25" exhaust... and a bunch of little s**t... had about 105 - 110kw at the fly.. so probably around 85 -95kw at the wheels.

Sounds like it would have caught a few falcons off guard :)

Actually it was a commy/falcon muncher... mine was the 1.8 litre... but it was worked so it was approx 2.0 litre... My X gf had an AU XR6.. and my lancer walked all over it...

Wasnt quicker than the V8's though... thats too much to expect from a 4cyl.

depends on the 4cyl, my first car was a 69 capri, after I blew up the fully worked 1600cc 4 potter, I dropped in a crated jap import 2.0 litre (21R-C) w/5 speed manual out of an RA60 celica (the one's that had done about 40000ks or so) and tricked it up, had a dislike for 6cyls even then, had to make my own engine mounts and use a bigger radiator and use the V6 front springs, but with the bonnet shut no one had a clue, and before they realised what had happened I was gone, there was only one V8 that got me, a munro in rockhampton, although he had a bit of noxious help and a nice long highway to use it 8-).

man that was 14yrs ago, I miss my little rocket, probably wouldn't stand a chance today.

but that's way off topic, so about the V8 GLi's what was stock in them to the public.

Just wondering (and don't get me wrong, I'n not trying to start a s**t fight  )

Do you think that an XR8 is quicker than an XR6?
Do you think that an e-series 5 litre is quicker than a stock e-series 4 litre?

And again, I dont want a s**t fight. I'm genuinly interested :)

Im pretty sure that the Series I EL XR8 was slower on the quarter mile than the same series XR6... but the 185kw Series II EL XR8 would smoke the XR6.

Just a thought, Maybe the series I XR8 was slower on the quarter... but what about up the top end of the speed range... wouldnt the XR8 be quicker up top, once its wound up...? they do have a longer final drive...

For the last time. The series one gets flogged by the xr6.
the series two really comes down to driver - they're almost identical.

Yeah true, but at 150, ur only just out of second gear... (automatic)... i think 2nd gear runs out at about 120-130 in mine... thats when the auto changes gear... so your not really reving it right out at that speed.

Does anyone know the top speeds for the XR8, and the XR6?.. that would be interesting.

You are right, you can feel the power drop once you get to about 5,000+rpm... But it feels the same in the 6cyl, once you get to about 5,000rpm... they die aswell..

the'yre both limited to 180 inauto form

I've seen that disco frank has posted a top speed of 235 for his XR6....

But yeah, mine is the same too. Power doesn't drop off. In fact, I would love to see what sort of max power I could get if I was allowed to rev to 6,500rpm :)

u'd get plenty of power until your engine blew to pieces.
was talking to a workshop down here that worked up an xr6turbo. They replaced a heap of the internals and removed the rev limiter - pretty much designied it to run at higher revs. still blew to pieces after 2 dyno runs.

There is no point reving the engine past redline, the peak torque and power has droped off way before redline... you would probably find that for the windsor 5.0L V8, the peak power and torque would be from about 2000rpm - 5000rpm... and after that the engine has lost its legs. A Redline is there to tell you that the engine is not designed to operate past that point, the engine becomes unballanced and the valves cant keep up ect. Thats what Valve bouncing is, when the pistons are moving faster than the valves, and they lose timing.
