Two question for you's...
1. Just wondering what diff ratios are available for an el xr8 diff? And which one would be the best, performance wise. I dont do much freeway driving at all, if any, but still want the option of doing freeway driving at moderate revs. So... What diff ratio would currently be in it? And what ratio would be the best for it, performance wise? 2. Can anyone recommend a good place in the sydney area? And around how much it should set me back? As i wanna book it in ASAP. By the way, the cars a 'series 1' el xr8. |

The series 1 normally got the 3.23 LSD diff - the series 2 got the 3.45 LSD.
3.45 is a good all round ratio with 110 being around 2100rpm in OD. If you want better launches 3.7 or 3.9 ratios would be better but it would mean higher rpms at highway cruising speed. Shane

I would probably go 3.7 in a manual and 3.9s in an auto, they should give great performance and still be reasonable on the highway.

So what revs would the car be at with 3.7s or 3.9s at around 110kmh?

3.9s should do around 2500rpm @ 110kph in an auto I would think.

Manula will do a bit more as the autos have a better overdrive. I would guess you would be looking at 2500-2600rpm which isn't that bad on the highway.

My 5spd does around 2300 with the 3.45 in it. Personally I wouldn't go the 3.9 with a manual, however I really hate highway revving, my car is bad enough for me. Wouldn't be too bad with a 3.7 I guess, one other problem is 1st gear might end up too short for the amount of power the car has.
if I remember correctly Waggin put a 3.45 in his car instead of a 3.23 and didn't like it. Your xr8 would accelerate off the line with a 3.7 like a weapon though hehehe

It will feel snappier like your driving around in a lower gear than what you normally would.

go with the 3.73s, I did the swap in my EBXR8, went from 3.27, still good on the highway and plenty of takeoff punch. just make sure you get the right info (cost) on correcting the speedo, mine was out 14 kays, cost me $200 because there was only one person in canberra that could sort it so the charge like crazy. you won't be sorry.
