Specs of Series I:
5.0L V8 (XR8) Bore and stroke: 102 x 76 mm Power: 185kW at 5000rpm Torque: 412Nm at 3500rpm Pushrod overhead valve, 2 valves per cylinder Fuel system: EEC V fuel injection Compression ratio: 9.1:1 Heres a bit of information about the Series II & III: http://www.aufalcon.com/Articles/handbuilt.htm And of course bodykit & wheels we're different. Trim/Interior & Brakes we're different. Security was different. If I were you, I'd really wait for a Series II at least.

Are you planning to modify it? If so, i don't think there is really enough difference between series I, II, and III to justify the $$$.
IMO, series 1 AU XR's are a bargain cause they are so often overlooked for series II and III cars. The only real negative against the series I are the small front brakes. Can be easily sorted with a decent set of brake pads (Formula Ferodo TS2000, or QFM A1M), and rotors (DBA Slotted). |

A bloke i know had one of each at one stage (shifty bastard). He always planned on selling one straight away. When it came down to it he kept the Series I and II. He just put the Series III kit onto the Series I.
For some reason the Series I and II vehicles were a fair bit quicker than the III. And the III guzzled juice something terrible. I'm not sure about the others but the 200kw engines are hand built with the actual technicians mark (sig) on them. You get a better chance of a freak motor when someone has taken pride in building it. |

the series 1 was lighter too.
towards the end of series 2, all xr8's got the 220kw. if you can afford it, get an xr8 rebel.

Yep cam is probably the first mod on an AU (along with matching springs and retainers and roller rockers of course), look at something like the Crane 2031, 2030 or TFS1 cam. Unlike the earlier E-series V8's, the AU's have decent heads, intake manifold, TB, MAF etc so the cam is actually the limiting factor. Exhasut and extractors are another area to look at although I would probably still do the cam first.

If you don't mind it a bit lumpy go for the TFS1, its an awesome cam IMO, with a really mean exhaust note and great power band. This will see you well over 200kw, probably looking at 240ish with exhaust. Otherwise the Crane 2031/2030 cams are also very nice too, they are generally more tame and possibly produce a tad more low end power at the expense of a bit up top. |
