AUIII XR8. What are the consequences of disconnecting the purge valve solenoid? Is it even doing the job correctly ticking away like it annoyingly does?

Most likely the charcoal canister will saturate and you'll start breathing tank vapours in the cabin. If you can hear it ticking it may be faulty or your exhaust is too quiet

Oh there's no issue with the exhaust note! Can't hear it in the cab. It's only a Sunday driver and rarely sees 2000kms a year so a bit of CO should be okay. Just curious.

I'd leave it operational. You might as well let the engine burn it rather than you breathing it.

As mentioned, wrap the purge solenoid in foam tape. This will shut it up a fair bit. I've got the same problem with mine, I'll get around to rectifying it one day.
