I do the same, mostly only down to third and depending on steepness and speed limit, sometimes down to second, never down to first.

Yeah i always use the gears for going down hills, never slam it for a rough change tho. Same with second - if she will slip in without too much lash then i dont see the problem.

Down to 1st? Ugghhh

In my fairy, I leave it in D all the time.

Even when I took it to WSID - I left it in D.

i guess though using the gears to brake wears out the gearbox to!!!!!! :?

i use em as well but when i put it back in D i always give it a little bit of throttle to smooth out changes

So you trust your brakes???

Was D for drag or drive ??? My batteries run out on my video recorder before you finished your run ...Lol....

I use the trans or auto for retarding some speed.. No point in burning up your brakes!! Leave them for emergencies...

If I ever down change in an auto I give it some gas otherwise you can feel the backlash through the driveline. But I never put it in first untill I'm almost at a complete stop. I susually go up through the gears cause I don't like the factory shiftpoints.
