With the I6's, you don't necessarily have to take the pulley off to dismantle the whole pump.
Not the same with the V8 pumps ??

The i6 pumps are easy to remove and you wouldn't even consider recoing them as you can pick them up for $20 in good condition

From memory the bolts pretty much line up with the outer rib on the pulley, so drilling isn't going to help. Could be wrong, but thats how I remember it. Haven't had the 5.0 for months :(

Wouldn't it be bad to unbalance the pulley anyway?...

They've still got unknown hrs of operation on them though - I'd rather still put a $10 seal kit through an existing item, and have seen it's internal condition.

I'm sure he's not talking bout the 3 bolts that mount it to the head rather the three male torx bit bolts that hold the pump to the ancillary backet.

correct.
i went and had a quick look and drilling a hole close to the edge of the pulley would work.
if you drilled 2 holes in the pulley, in line with each other, i cant see the pulley being that unbalanced.

how many holes do the AU pulleys have in them?

I got the pulley remover from Repco for $20 a few months back on clearance. Made it very easy.

I made my own pulley installer using some large washers, a high tensile bolt into the pump, and a pair of nuts so that I could just tighten the pulley down.
