Eb ghia v8 cranks over but wont fire up,fuel pump runs constantly on accessories,i was sure it is only meant to prime for 5 secs ?
The plug I pulled to check for spark was bone dry. There is power to the coil and have changed the coil over but no spark, coil has about 8-9 volts going to it while cranking. Im almost thinking the ecu might be dead? How do I test the ecu? Would the coil not be sparking if the ecu is dead? It was driving fine then just stopped in traffic.... I think I have noid lights to check for injector power, might try that next? thanks for any help |

Only a suggestion but rotor button in the distributor cap could be issue from age.

Checked the rotor button, seems all good, ive replaced it in the past, cheers
Just went and plugged the noid light into the injector harness and no power to the harness while cranking. I only just replaced a dead transmission computer which the transmission place said was a rare occurance, maybe the engine ecu has packed it in too:( Not sure if anything else could cause no power to the injector harness, does the ecu have an external fuse? Just remembered that I have a code reader, ill go plug the big girl in and see what it says. cheers |

I found a few old forum threads that say if you have no spark or injector pulse the tfi on the dizzy could be faulty, might have a crack tomorrow...
How the hell does the injector pulse get affected by the tfi module? And would this also cause the fuel pump to be constantly running? |

Check the fuel pump relay and the ECU relay under the coolant bottle. Probably some heat damage to the relay bases, or corrosion.

Replaced the tfi with a new one, still nothing.
Just pulled the 2 relays under the overflow,is the fuel pump the blue 5 pin and the ecu the grey 4 pin? Both had corrosion so ill try replace them. Fuel pump still runs constantly with the key on. failing the relays fixing it,doubt it though,id say the ecu may be toast, unless ive missed something? |

The ford relays I removed don't say if they are resistor type, most of the relays at supercheap/autobarn are resistor type.

Update,i replaced the 5 pin relay and swapped the 4 pin over with no joy.
The car has spark now after putting the new tfi in but still no injector pulse. Fuel pump still runs constantly with the key on. Would a weak/worn out fuel pump cut power to the injector harness and make it run constantly or am I looking at a dodgy ecu? Pretty sure ive checked everything I can think of? |

could a faulty bcm cause my issues?
The bcm and ecu are matched aren't they? Even if I can find a computer I need the matching bcm or it still wont work... Farrrrrrrrk |

I think you need to arm yourself with some diagrams https://fordforums.com.au/wsm/wire/ea42/21-2.html .
Otherwise you're going nowhere fast. To test the Fuel pump relay and ECU relay and the wiring, disconnect the ECU from it's plug, Earth the top right pin of the diagnosis connector, and turn IGN on - fuel pump should run continuously.

Yep I did that and the pump ran continuously, what does that mean then?
Does it mean the fuel pump and ecu power is good? Sorry my questions are dumb sounding but this is as far as ive ever delved into any electrical situation Thankyou for giving me a direction to go in. |

I checked tps voltages too, trans tps is normal(around .8),engine tps has barely no voltage at all, less than .1 of a volt and only .5 volt at wot, it should be about 4.3-4.5 volts.
The tps plug from the trans has about 4 volts feeding it,the engine one had only about .5 volts. |

The relays and wiring are okay. Does it mean the fuel pump and ecu power is good? Yes, try it again with the ECU connected. Sorry my questions are dumb sounding but this is as far as ive ever delved into any electrical situation That's okay - learn from it though. You need to mention as well if there's anything non std about the setup - J3 chip, etc

The ecu is stock,no chip fitted.
Car has extractors,3 inch exhaust,3.9 diff gears, ported gt40p heads,1.72 roller rockers,220 cam, rebuilt motor, stock t/b and au v8 maf with stock electrics. Car has run fine untuned and makes about 200rwhp,its been fine for about 6 years. I tried to start it again with the ecu hooked up with no joy,the pump still runs constantly. Ive managed to source an ecu with the same 1deb catchcode, hopefully I can try the different ecu today. |
