Hi guys,
Just wanting to know some good cheapish mods for a 302w powered EB series I Fairmont. This is what I have decided to upgrade - Air intake & Air flow system Exhaust & extractors Chipped ECU Mild cam Intake manifold & throttle body Shift kit auto What I'd like to know is some good quality mods that will produce nice power gains in those areas. Also any advice on combinations of components that will compliment each other nicely. Any specific info on availability or cost of parts would be good too Thanks chaps, Pat |

Ben_Daui -
What thermos and shift kit are you using and how much were they? I didn't think AU XR snorkels were a straight fit, did you end up modifying it? @ BBQ cover |

Thermos are EF about $100-$150 2nd hand
Shift kit is a kit Yobboford Will supply list & details PM him $75 for the kit AU XR snorkel just drill some mounting holes as the standard ones dont line up to the body. The BBQ cover is the engine cover that hides the DIZZY

What rockers do you have? What ratio are they? Most off the shelf cams for the Windsor are to suit 1.6:1 ratio rocker, though there are some available to suit the less common 1.72:1 rockers. |

No idea on ratios or anything about the stock rollers mate.
They would be whatever the stock 302 windsor setup is. Hoping I can buy a cam that will suit these so I am not having to upgrade RR's and so on.. Getting these by the end of the week, Tickford EL GT intake snorkel K&N panel filter Polished chrome intake pipe AU XR8 thermo fans Exhaust is pretty much sorted out, just need to decide wether to go twin 2.5" or 3" mandrel bent.. any suggestions or feedback welcomed. On another note, has anyone got an idea what an explorer manifold & 65mm throttle body will set me back? Also can anyone recommend a good chip for ECU.. I have heard that someone on here can get something called a TwEEcEr? Anyone had experience with these? Are they as good or the same as chipping the ECU? Thanks Pat |

OK. The existing rockers are stamped steel, and are 1.6:1 ratio (actually 1.59:1 according to the Ford workshop manual).
They are not "roller" rockers, they have no bearings nor roller tips. You dont have to upgrade them when you fit a bigger cam, but you do greatly increase the risk of a breaking a std rocker when you fit a larger more aggressive camshaft. Think of aftermarket rockers as cheap insurance for the rest of your engine. |

Cheers for the advice man.
I guess it would make sense to do it all, and not cheap out on the cam. Going to have a look on the Crane website. |

First thing i'd be changing is the intake manifold then getting extractors, cats & exhaust.
thats the first lot of bottle necks. Would'nt waste my money on a chip or tweecer either until you atleast get a decent pair of heads up top.

I had thought of doing heads... with extrude honing... just a bit pricey.
Anyone know how much GT40p & GT40x go for, both 2nd hand & brand new? With the exhaust I'm going a 3" lukey mandrel bent stainless from cat back, 3" Lukey hi-flow cat, Pacemaker Ph4000's, and a Lukey muffler. Hoping with the air intake & exhaust done I'll start to see some improvements Thanks guys Pat |

You will see a minor improvement with the exhaust (will sound a heap better though) & air intake done, but from experience the beast thing you can do is get a decent intake manifold. The standard HO one's are crap.
BTW, I wouldnt waste any money paying to get work done to the stock heads. They are crap to start with and can only have so much power extracted out of them no matter what you do. The most I would do to them is a home port job that costs you nothing but time.

Do you know if an explorer intake manifold and 65mm TB will be straight fit or will it need modifying? Thanks Pat |

All you need is air and your engine will wake up.
