Just wondering what cam is right for an eb xr8.
Hydraulic flat tappet design for factory flat tappet equipped engines. Or Retro fit hydraulic roller design for flat tappet equipped engine? Both for the 302. If you want to look at them just type in these item numbers on eBay. 181079621927 - that's the first one. 200573191293 - that's the second one. Cheers heaps for any help! |

Neither.
You need an actual roller cam.

Oh ok I thought the eb v8's were roller follower with flat tappets, I was guessing the second cam but I'm lost now lol.
Are they completly different to the ole Windsor's? |

They're not completely different but they are equipped with a hydraulic roller cam & followers.
A cam swap by itself will not yield huge results due to the poor flowing heads, intake & exhaust manifolds & small throttlebody. An AU top end (or better still complete engine) would give better gains & allow more growth in the future with its better heads (GT40Ps), Explorer intake and 65mm throttlebody. But if you are adament on a cam swap check out the Comp Cams XE264HR or XE270HR

Ok thanks for all that info.
I was just after one of those specific cams for the chunky idle but got confused because i was getting told the cam will fit then it wont was gunna chuck all the gt40ps and explorer intake on as I went but I'm having trouble finding the explorer complete intake. People either wont post it or they want a crazy price. |

Get a Comp Thumper 31-600-9 or rougher still a 31-601-9 ground on std roller base circle and you'll have a lumpy idle. Probably have a hard time tuning it with their 107deg lobe sep angles but you'll get your lumpy idle.

Or a 35-600-8 & not have to change the firing order. I think with a QH you could actually get it running acceptably..

I'd get -9 core though unless you run a comp polymer gear. |

Just buy the whole kit from comp cams? |

Yes but If you get them to grind it on a std 5.0 roller base circle you won't need non-std pushrod length. If you buy it as is you'll need slightly longer pushrods to make up for the reduce base circle of these retrofit roller cams. Either way you be better to get a complete kit with springs, pushrods retainers etc. |

Ok thanks heaps, now I reckon I'm on to it. If I get them to grind it on the 5.0 std base circle and get the kit with springs etc. will it be safe without strain to run it with the standard pushrods already in it?

I wouldn't run std. pushrods with anything over .500" besides you'll probably find the deal is better if you the whole kit with everything required. Also specify a -9 core which is the steel cam not the -8 which is the austempered iron job and not as good. Or like I said use the Comp polymer cam gear with the -8 core.
