White plug electrodes could also be the following The plugs may be the wrong heat range Low octane fuel Post up a pic of the plug electrode if you can Has the motor been modified

The engine is standard, just extractors and exhaust. The timing is dead on, as I said before the problem is only at low rpm, it doesn't occur all the time time, it gets better and almost goes away as the car warms up. |

White plugs and backfire is also lean out conditions...
Check injector O rings... Inlet manifold leaks or any leaks between MAF and engine... Fuel supply, fuel pump, pipes and filter... Clean MAF and check if its working.. Check if TPS is under 1v and progresivly goes up with throttle opening to 4.5 / 5.00 volts.. Check earth wire is connected at rear inlet bolt... Check purge valve on left front side of engine... If anything run slightly tighter gap on plugs till its sorted.... Iridium plugs are often set with too much gap.... Don't discount the 02 sensers and any leaks in exhaust can cause strange fuel mixtures... The purge solinoid is behind the left rear head light.. It connects to charcoal canister to keep hydrocarbons [EPA] from escaping.. This can upset the AFR if valve is open all the time...

As mentioned before, the white crap on the plugs are a good sign of leaning out & the shuddering your experiencing is the knock sensor detecting ping. could be wrong as the symptoms could mean anything other then that.

I didn't think the Windsors had knock sensors? I have just solved my serious leaning out condition by replacing my O2's. All is good now. I was getting a bad shudder when cruising and hesitation/lean misfire under acceleration in 1st/2nd gear <1800rpm. All my hesitations and shudders e.t.c. were coming in "waves" like it would if it was surging. They were 12 yrs old / 115,000km so if yours haven't been changed i recommend it,. Drive around with your trip computer on instant mode and see if the instant fuel consump drops when your having issues.

Yeah, I think the o2s are going to be the problem. I have booked the car into Ford to get it diagnosed, figure I might as well get them to tell me everything thats wrong with it before I keep spending money on things. (my local mechanic's computer wouldnt connect to the car correctly to give the proper diag) |

Don't know if they did but I thought every car that came with an ecu had one. one thing to look out for is carbon build up in the combustion chambers. might be worth getting it clean as that can cause pinging as well.

But I have had some luck this weekend, checked the TPS and it was way out, so I adjusted both of them to read the correct readings and the problem has gone. There is still a very slight miss, you can hear it at idle but it doesn't effect the drivability of the car. So I am happy that its all done now, I will still replace the o2 sensors at some stage, its just not as pressing now. |

There is still one thing with the car, the transmission still holds 3rd (I think its 3rd) at 60kmh when the car is warm.
It seems it only happens when its been driving for a while or driving hard, it also stops happening if I turn the car off and back on again. Is there some kind of temp sensor or something that makes the transmission hold gears longer when its warm or something?? |

Hey,
I want to try a different MAF on the car. Still having a few issues and thinking I need to replace it with a new one. I found this on eBay, will it work with my car? {DESCRIPTION} |

It won't work properly.
I remember reading a thread recently with the exact same question. I cant remember the technical explaination why.

Fair enough, I just went and bought a new one for $100.
Its says MAP on the box instead of MAF, is this going to be the correct part? I did ask the guy for a Mass Airflow Meter |
