Can anyone give any info on how to tell if my EDXR8 is a sprint or not,im not after the visual clues as they are able to be added.Compliance is 8/93.When i did a revs check it shows(Variant/series S XR8ED),now EDs didnt come out with an S,only XR8 and sprint. Also apparently weight was slightly different apparently.
So does the fact that it shows S variant mean that this car is a sprint? |

1993-1994 Australian ED XR8 Sprint – After the 200kW 25th Anniversary EB GT of 1993, Ford decided to use the same engine (albeit detuned to 195kW) for a limited run XR8. The standard XR8 generated 165kW and was trounced by the lighter and nimbler XR6, but the Sprint clawed back some V8 kudos. The car was actually 70kg lighter than the GT, at 1579kg. As a result it Sprint-ed from 0-100km/h in 7.3 seconds, on the way to a 230km/h terminal velocity.
Other goodies included a tasty Momo four-spoke tiller, 16-inch ROH rims, suspension revisions including 5mm lower springs, and new anti-roll bars for better high-speed stability. |

The Series S may be a bit of a miss-lead.
The EB Came out with the S in XR6 and XR8, and I think that shortly after the "S" was dropped. Your car is likely a standard XR8. Especially if you are missing things like the upgraded intake manifold |

Nope, Im not 100% sure.
There was an "S" in most models before the EB, and Im sure the EB started with the "S" From Wikipedia : - the Series 2 is also similar. Note the XR8 is the "S XR8". The ED Dropped the "S" (EB Series 1)The model range of the first series on sale from August 1991 comprised the following variants: GL Fairmont Fairmont Ghia S S XR8 |

Yeah, but its an ED. The S was the base model for "Sports", which had the XR6 and XR8 model in the EB.
The S was dropped at the ED, and the XR8 and XR6 badges carried themselves |

Thats why i asked the question because when i checked it showed variant/series S EDXR8 and the s series was dropped for the ed.The car is modified so no manifold to check.

The Tag isnt related directly to the Badge. The S is the model it was certified under for ADR. (with suspension engine and exhaust differences from the normal model). The Marketing Name was different

If http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article.ht ... int&A=0656 is correct, alloy GT40 heads would be a bit pricey to add, just for sake of a lookalike. Easy to spot over the usual cast iron units. The ECU would possibly have a different catch code to the std XR8 one too. Some good pics in this thread post575001.html

Wheel size on yours is 6.0 x 15. Sprints had 16" Wheels. Makes yours a normal XR8 Also as can be seen in the pics in the post listed at the bottom of Snaps post, Sprints also had a special boot garnish badge as well as the SPRINT badge above the Tickford badge on the front guard in place of the XR8 Badges. |
