Girlfriends car is idling ok but the hwole car shudders pretty bad.. when you increase revs it becomes smoother but still not right..

do u reckon its an engine mount? how do i tell if a mount is busted? also i noticed smoke coming from the undercar when she is driving(not from exhaust)when u give it s**t there is more smoke.. could that be related? i also noticed the underdrive pulley is a bit wobbly when u look at the motor? i have no idea about v8s so could someone just give me some advice cheers

Yeah the car had a hard day on sat..dyno run then a cruise..
well im hoping its the harmonic balancer.. is there a good brand to go for? The fact it was starting to wobble a bit could of been why its just let go now.. how the hell do i check its the balancer before i replace it but?

Visually inspect the balancer, check the rubber or urethane between the two steel pieces hasn't come apart. Take the belt off and see if the outer ring of the balancer is loose.

If so and it needs replacing get it to a competant mechanic. By the sounds of it I don't think you should tackle this job on your own.

Believe me I've seen some qualified mechanics do some unbelievably stupid sh!t... Check it out first before ripping into anything. :)

Certainly, i cant see why not, not sure on the price of a std replacement one but it cant be much less than the powerbond ones.
