I've heard Castrol transmax z is good. I use aft Dex 3 but that's for a xr6 t5 . I think v8 uses gear oil not atf.

I wouldnt use penrite either . I used the oil recommended by penrite in the book and it f**k my t5 started grinding in 4th and 5th. Replaced it with dex 3 with additive and it went a bit quiet

I'm using the Penrite stuff, have been for a few years now.
I can't fault it. I never noticed a difference from strait Dex3 to the Penrite stuff.

Cheers mate, I got told by a mechanic to use dex 3 today, went out and bought it, I was expecting it to be thicker? Has anyone got an xr8 manual that knows from experience? Don't really want to stuff my gearbox

Dex is that thin, it's normal.
There's an additive that Ford recommend. Lubrizol I think it's called.
I ran my T5 without the additive for about 2 years (60,000km) with no issues, but now the Penrite stuff has it built in.

What penrite oil did you use ? I used the sin gear oil. Forget the weight . It says it replaces dex 3 atf.

Manual Gear Oil 70.
http://www.penriteoil.com.au/products/m ... ear_oil_70
It says in it's description it is suitable for gearboxes where auto fluid is specified.

Looking at the Penrite website, it seems none of the Sin Gear are suitable for the T5.
That's probably why you're having issues.

That's what the guy at autobarn suggested . Hence why I never take the oil they suggest . I research what's good / compatible and buy it myself .

Use the castrol tansmax. The guides in shops will suggest a gear oil like the Penrite, but that will do horrible nasty things to your internals. Tremec suggest on their website to use an ATF (I remember that when I put the T5 in the AU).

Mal Wood will only recomend the transmax z, I have heard it can void his warranties if you use anything else.
