Hi guy's just thought i would come on here to see if some one can help me. I have a 1996 ef xr8 and have a problem with my thermo fans, when the car comes up to temp or even when its starts over heat they just wont kick in at all. I have replaced the relays and it still did not fix the problem so does any one have any ideas??? I have connected the fans to direct power and they work fine but as soon as i plug them in to their proper connections they are dead.
Cheers Luke.. |

Check the fuses.

If you're still unsure they're a few fuses housed in a row of 6 or so under the hood next to the coolant bottle??? and one of them is for the FANS. Check that and see how you go, especially if you replaced the relays already. The relays was my issue a while back causing the fans to not switch to high speed. |

I changed the fuse and now when I reconnect the battery it just blows the fuse I replaced it with the reccomended 60 amp but it just keeps blowing them any ideas? |

Check the relays in front of the airbox. If they are ok, then check the coil resistance of the individual fan motors; may be shorted which means new fans.

If the fans are gone, that's actually a fairly easy fix. When mine died I was lucky enough to have a mate with spares laying around to test. Just sit them on top of the engine cover if you still have one and plug them in. Aircon on max, fan of full (makes the fans kick on high). If they spin and nothing goes boom then that's your problem.
Alas, turned out for me it wasn't my fans... 2nd time I've had a falcon ECU that just didn't want to ground the relays when it was supposed to. :/ Bright side for you - as mentioned, if the fuses are going it's has to be something on that side of the relay circuit. So don't stress about that. |

Thanks for you help Thermo fans are the same for V8 and I6, but EF & EL fans are different. You will need to source an EF set. EF have a 2 speed set up for one of the fans and EL the fans are both single speed. |
