Hi Guys,
I have a pretty mint ED Fairmont wagon. The 4.0 is perfect and the car has only done 169,000k's but I think it needs the V8 to finish it. In fact if I ordered it new the only things I would change would be to option the V8 engine and choose Cobolt blue. Anyway my questions are; Whats needed to fit a 5.0 to a 4.0ED? Does the A/C, P/S and alternator fit or are the V8 bits needed? Will the 4.0 trans fit up or will I need the V8 trans? Does the tailshaft need modding? Will the fuel pump from the 6 be okay with the 8? I want to keep everything else stock, so it looks like a stock 5.0 Fairmont wagon. I have fitted clear lights and Kings super lows in the front and 2" blocks in the back but have retained all the perfect condition stock parts. Thanks in advance, Jason |

Nope Will the fuel pump from the 6 be okay with the 8? Yep on a mild one it will be fine I want to keep everything else stock, so it looks like a stock 5.0 Fairmont wagon. Thanks in advance, Jason I'll feild some of these: 1) the Air conditioning, power steering and alternator need to be V8 items, and you'll also need the V8 power steering lines. 2) You will need to source a V8 Transmission 3) Your original tailshaft is the correct length, and you can use it no dramas. 4) The fuel pump will be fine for the V8. I'll add a few more things. * The K frame will need to be swapped for a V8 item. * You'll need to source all the wiring looms, the ECU, and the transmission computer from a V8 vehicle. * Obvously your exhaust will need modding, but if you have a 2.5" system already, you can probably re use most of it, as long as it's not crap. * Your tacho will NOT be calibrated for an 8 cylinder engine, 3 options, get a gauge specialist to re calibrate yours, have a go at recalibrating it yourself, or fit an instrument cluster from a V8 car. Everything else is pretty straight forward. The easiest way is to get a donor car and swap everything over. a Sedan would be fine too, NC Fairlanes are often cheap on ebay with V8's, and that'd have the added bonus of giving u a nice Interior. Cheers for the quick reply's guys.
I was kinda hoping it was like my old XA that we modded from a 200ci to 351ci years ago and all we needed was the engine and an exhaust, lol But I guess the air, power steer and ecu make it a bit more complicated I like the idea of a complete donor car but love my interior. I hate plastic wood grain and leather, thats why I don't own a Ghia, lol Last edited by EDdy Waggs on Wed Nov 30, 2011 9:28 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

hi guys new to here but i have just done this conversion all i can say 17 hours work well worth it BUT i would never of done this without the donor car (nc fairlane) after getting the k frame and bent 8 in(all together from underneath!) and start plugging stuff in to find i needed to change the whole engine bay loom over due to the v8 having its own comp !
