EL GT ECU will have 104 pins on its harness plug. EB harness will only have 60 pins... Offyaguts is correct - it is the EEC which is calibrated to the MAF... It's a 3 way relationship... EEC is calibrated to MAF... EEC is setup to use x# injectors... Aftermarkets like mine get around it by changing the MAF voltage to change EEC's pulse widths to suit the injectors you are using... but not a perfect science. Load calculations will be incorrect at certain points.

I have looked at mine and it is nothing like the EF, it is just an old EEC- IV ECU that has been upgraded to run the thermos etc, I cannot see why he could not run the 70mm housing with the electronic sensor from his current MAF. thats what I did when I had my EB, just got a 70mm housing and used the original electronic component. |

I have looked at mine and it is nothing like the EF, it is just an old EEC- IV ECU that has been upgraded to run the thermos etc, I cannot see why he could not run the 70mm housing with the electronic sensor from his current MAF. thats what I did when I had my EB, just got a 70mm housing and used the original electronic component." thats bad.. the only thing that kept the motor from running super lean is the correction tables in the ECU, and the fact that the ecu is in closed loop most of the time. it still may have been quite lean at WOT and warm-up.

are you saying that you changed over your black plug and maf wires inside the maf to a bigger maf?

yeh just unscrew the blak sensor from the old housing and screw it into the bigger one, it didn't run lean, why would it?
edit : I have seen 90mm C&L housings with the standard ford electronics screwed to them as well. |

Yeah my C&L 73mm takes the standard e series sensor, bolts right on.

um coz theres more air going thru than the computer knows about? ... untill it gets time to run in closed loop for a while and update the correction tables then WOT and warm-up gonna be lean. coz they dont check mixture on HEGO sensors like normal driving.. and even then its tuning itself on old simple hego sensors.. i wouldnt trust it.

But i does know how much air its getting...... initially when you first do it you will need to take it for a run so that it can adjust but thats it...... I ran mine for years with a bigger MAF housing and I know ofther people that run them too..... if it were to run lean it would ping and I was running 36 deg BTC timing with it and a 65mm T/B on an Explorer intake with GT40P heads and all standard ECU and sensors. |

The EEC doesn't generally have enough learning capacity to correct for different calibration MAFs, but the EL GT, EB GT, ED Sprint and AU MAF's all have a pretty similar curve to the stock MAF so you can get away with it. The problem is in the top end of the MAF flow curve where there is a big difference which will cause your engine to run way too lean. However stock or mildly modified engines generally won't use enough air to get the MAF to that point, but be carefull, the more mods you do the more the top end will lean out.
