Hey guys, ive been given the opportunity to pick up a Crane Cam for a decent price.
I have a stock EL V8, (Auto) with just a 2 1/2 inch cat back on it. My question is, and Id really love your advice. Which cam is the best suited. If i went say for the 2030, is all i have to change for the time being, the Valve springs? I understand i will get minimal gains without touching the heads/intake etc, but like i said, i can get either a 2030, or a 2031 for a great price. Any advice, or tell me what you would do, would be much appreciated ! Steve |

Maybe get an opinion from a pro - it can't hurt to expand your knowledge. Try Mick Webb's SVO in Ringwood.

Yeah you will need valve springs and matching retainers., but you should also look at some roller rockers. You may also need longer pushrods as the base circle of the aftermarket cams are smaller, some get away without these though. IMO I would go for the 2030 over the 2031, it does have a slightly worse idle but should produce more power.

I thought the main difference between the 2030 and the 2031 is that the 2031 is for use with 1.7 ratio roller rockers, and the 2030 is for use with 1.6's

Yeah thats it but the 2030 has a bit more lift and duration so should give slightly better results. |

http://www.atlanticspeed.com/store/Cran ... 0Chart.asp The 2030 is more agressive, more lift and would have rougher idle...

It really depends on what ratio rockers you want to use - if you want to stick the cam in now and upgrade to roller rockers later - the 2030 will slide right in. The 2030 is a little more aggressive but it is still an emissions legal camshaft with a Californian Air Research Board approval number so the cops can't really caomplain too much.
The 2031 needs 1.7 rockers fitted - and as stated - has a little less lift and duration than the 2030 so it should idle a touch better than the 2030. But having said that - the differance between the two cams is minimal. Shane
