Hey guys, just wondering if the pulley needs to come off to remove the power steering pump from an EL 5 litre, it looks like all the bolts that secure it to the bracket are behind the pulley, but according to the max ellerys, you need to remove the pump in order to remove the pulley, so basically the question is, how do I get it off? if I need to remove the pulley, what sort of puller and other tools will I need?

Undo the two bolts you can get at, then, using an open ender on the one you can't get at, start to turn it at the same time turning whole bracket in the same direction. This cracks the bolt loose and allows it to be undone whilst still trapped behind the pulley.

Either use the special puller to remove the pulley or bore a 20mm hole through the pulley to access the 3 torx bolts (E14 from memory) that hold it onto the bracket. The hole needs to be about 20mm as the bolts have a large integral washer.

Sorry Gab, I described how to get the whole bracket off the engine with the pump still on it. I'd use the proper puller to get the pulley off as xafalcon says.

I might be able to get away with leaving the bracket on it, if I can get a replacement pump that also has the bracket on it, assuming I can get the A/C compressor off the bracket. Can a 6 cylinder style Saginaw pump be adapted? I beleve it's a better pump.

Why cant the Saginaw be adapted? Surely if you make some new brackets it will work? just wondering how hard this would be? Can I use the C2 Pump off an XD or XE if I change the pulley to suit? Gab |

Gab THEY MADE THE PUMP TO FIT-EB-EL OR AU1 V8WINDSOR,you can make any thing fit,but what pressure goes to the rack before you blow seals.86-93 mustang use the same pump.

There's a point there, but I beleve being as the 6 cylinder and V8 use the same rack, you should be OK with the 6 cylinder pump......correct me if I am wrong, but I dont see why it wont work.
