the S2 is only 10kw more than the S1, cause of the manifold, i would go for the S2 though

It has the GT headers too deosn't it? Either way that 10kW made a difference. |

There aren't really many cons to them.
They're a lot more reliable and will last longer than any of the i6's. They sounds great with a different exhaust, but as Soulfire said, they will lose to an XR6 if stock. Get some extractors and an exhaust and it'll be as quick as the 6's, but will sound horn. The Series 2's are preferable, as they got the GT Headers (still get rid of them), and the Explorer Manifold. Still if you can find a Series 1 that you like, go for it. |

yeah they're nice cars, the torque off idle is awesome, the sound is beautiful and NA potential is good.
very reliable engine too, unlike our head blowers. |

the series 2's had a higher diff ratio 3:45 v the 3:23 of the s1 .. bit more boogey off the line .. albeit not a real drama in manuals, means alot in the auto slog box..
both models contain bad heads. E7 type.. will not permit a huge gain on engine mods, due to limted flow. etc and the series 2's explorer intake manifold will work better with engine mods such as new heads, cam and rr.. maf's tb, etc ... flows upto 200rwkw ish i think from memory running that gear.. ??? series 2 had the 16" wheels standard. series 1 were as an option .. will be a marginal higher sale/resale value on the series 2's ... a few thousand. |

The only problem I have with EB/ED/EF/EL XR's is the pov pack interior. Very disappointing there was no leather option like there is in AU/BA/BF.

I only know that the XR8's used more fuel than the XR6's and there are less XR8's out there.

I'll contest that the XR8's use more fuel than the XR6's.
I could get 800km out of tank of my 8, and have also got better consumption figures around town than a few of the guys i know that drive the 6's. Of course all cars are different, but i wouldn't be worrying about fuel consumption between the 6 and 8. A manual 8 in an EL will use less than an Auto 6 for sure. |

ok, awsome.
how much can the stock black and drivetrain handel power-wise? ie. how much power could i get out of the engine? if i was looking at getting into the 300+ rwkw would it be worth just getting a better engine? also, anyone know how big the engine bay could handel? ie. could a 350 or somthin be dropped in? |
