Hi all,

im considering buying an el xr8, just like to know how they go all round first though, eg. fuel consumption, 0-100, q/mile, handeling, how responsive. also are they a good car in regards to problems or will i be going to the mechanic every few weeks having things fixed.

any and all help appreciated

i guess its like all cars depends whats hapend to the car befor you got it, look hard and if you get a good one it will last forever, they are tough as

I have an EF, but I haven't had any problems with it yet other than fair wear & tear.

As for some of the stats, I would be expecting a mid to high 14 1/4 mile if you are a good driver, but there is plenty of potential.

Fuel consumption, I get 400km/tank. Mine isn't exactly standard though. I would expect around the 500km/tank mark on a stocker, give or take 50-100kms depending on how you drive it. If you are chasing fuel economy, I would stay clear of all V8s and forced induction, especially with the way fuel prices are going.

Handling, Mine is stock height, so its not a race car that grips corners, but it goes fairly well around them when I drive it properly.

I'd only be expecting around mid 15's, low 15's with exhaust and extractors.
Should get 400-500km out of a tank for city driving. 500-550km with mixed driving. 700-800km on just highway driving.
You shouldn't have any problems with them. They can cop an absolute flogging and will still come back for more.
They handle reasonably well, when stock, but as with most, if you lower them to a certain point properly, they'll handle even better.
A good reliable car for the money.

el2 can do a 14 sec 1/4 mile.. el1 will need a few more tweaks to get up there..

but yeh good reliable car, just that fuel can be a bit gay.

had my el 2 for a year and a bit, and had no drammas, plenty of them getting around now for low dollaz, specially the EL series 2.. which is favourable over the series 1. motors are real good, obviously one thats been cared for helps, as in the case with any car..
and seem to have good performance, the auto box is a slug out of the gates, but rips open in 2nd gear, ive heard of a 15.3 from a stock EL 2 auto, ranging to a 15.7 etc .. depending on driver and conditions,

i think for what they can be paid for, are a good buy. can spend a ew saved dollars on making them an easy 14 car. If your looking at a bang for buck the AU1 series would be the better motor combo to start on, over the EL, altho They may be a little underpowered compared to thier later AU and BA XR models, but id rather a 14s worked EL over a stockish AU..but thats just me..

i do around 350-400km to a tank but thats with some spirited weekend driving.. around 450km i guess on a easy week, its too hard not to listen to the windsor on throttle!

I found with performance, it was all depending on the air temp , go for the series 2 if you are gonna get one as the engine on the series 1 leaves a LOT to be desired and when you do want more GO it will cost a s**t to get it to a reasonable standard. (mine cost aprox $4G to make it into the high 13's)

hey i gotta ef xr8 and i would highly reccomend them. they arnt the most powewrful cars out there but for the money paid (between $9000 to $13500) u cant go wrong. i mean try and kill the things. i consistantly push my xr to its limits and other than a few accesories breaking i just cannot kill tha thing.
so with good maintanence and i guess a little care u can find a machine that will last forever.

just beware tho around 280k onwards things like alternator starter motor etc etc will prob begin to ware down a little.

i am yet to run it but mine just became vortech V2 blown. hoping with a dyno tune to make around 300kw at the treads.

What else you done to your ride jagga?

I got an EF1 XR8 with a Vortech V2, extractors and exhaust, and push 297rwhp. Just interested to see what else you have done to hope for 300rwkw.

My thoughts exactly. I wouldn't expect a stock XR8 to make anywhere near that, or for long.
Hope the drivetrain has copped some upgrades too...

I handed down my old EL XR8 to my son with 90K on the clock and he flogs crap out of it and it now has 120K on it and drives like a dream. Fuel for me was aver. 11 lt/100km for him 12.5 lt/100km with going down to 10 lt/100km on trips.

That's pretty good economy. It's line ball with the sixes. I didn't see that coming...
