When ignition is turned off and then to on I no longer hear the fuel pump doing it's usual whirring noise. Put a multimeter on the the plug for the fuel pump and it get's 12V the instant the ignition is turned on but drops away to 3V after about a second. Car has been quite rough on idle lately but a higher than idle RPM it is OK. Not sure if this problem is related at all to it not starting now. Bloody cars, if it's not female troubles it's cars.

After a second or 2-3 secs? 2-3 secs is normal if you don't crank. If the EEC sees no PIP(ie from cranking) when ignition on, it turns off the pump.

OK, cheers. Sounds like the fuel pump is dead then.

Try primimg the pump through the diag connector under the dash(where you would do a self test) before you conclude it's the pump or check the voltage remains at the pump while cranking.

Bought a new pump today, too dark to fit now but no fuel squirted out when I disconnected the lines and tried ignition. Hopefully I didn't waste my money. Thinking of draining the feul out of the tank too. Looks really icky in there.
