OK, as Im new to v8's im kinda out of the loop on this prob that arose in the fbt last night; all of a sudden then note changed from the zorst and the idle was very lumpy in D sitting at lights..
I went to take off and it vibrated pretty nasty around 1700-2100 rpm, above that was a little smoother thou.
It does this in all gears and reverse but not as bad in Neutral or park, idles a bit more civilised.
Im s**t myself thinking something bad has happened now and have no idea where to look for/start looking!
I am hoping its something easy (yer rite) like harmonic balancer or engine mount only coz when at idle the engine rocks around a fair bit and the car has a vibration thru it.

Any ideas, is it fooked?

Just sounds like a missfire to me. Do one thing at a time, cheapest to most expensive.. Plugs, leads, cap, rotor etc. Does it vibrate on decelleration?

The process of elimination, have the plugs etc been done recently, or since you had it, good reason to change all that stuff.

Due to a similar experience on my XF, I suspect your leads.
For example you may have a crack in one of the leads and it may shorting to the nearest piece of metal when you put the FBT under load. The way I found that short was during the twilight hours I lowered the bonnet so it was dark in the engine bay and had someone rev the motor. I could see a little blue arc from one of the leads to the rocker cover in the darkness.

It vibrates the whole time, but at most times its not very noticable, but at the mentioned revs its very noticable to the point i wont drive in that rev range!
I dunno, leads sound too simple, why would that make the car vibrate so badly?
Earlier that night i put the car into reverse before coming to a full stop, nothing crazy so i didnt think it did any hardm, just a second too soon; hope i have fuked something bad.
Anyone know someone GOOD i can take my car to in melbourne, SE suburbs if possible to get it looked at, i cant driving it like this, altho it sounds really tuff lol!
I noticed at idle it rocks a bit more than usual too (the engine itself)..
Also loss of power i think, not too sure tho yet.
Whats prices on leads, plugs and whats a cap?

Is your MAF plugged in and clean? If you know anyone else with a 5 litre see if you can borrow their MAF for a squirt around the block. If the car runs fine your MAF is dead. Also, check you don't have any airleaks between the MAF and throttle body, that will make it run rough.
Try extracting any fault codes too.

OK, last night i had a quick look at obvious things like fallen off leads n crap as it happened in my i6 once with a misfire, and just went n played around with the leads, seems 100% fine now.
Since my next service is coming up very soon ill replce them then.
Thanks for the help guys, i didnt thin it would be that, as the i6 was just lacking power with a misfire; this was full on shuddering n running insanely rough..
Still learning.

i guess, because the cylinders oppose each other, a miss would cause vibrations...
bet ya you really were biting your nails when that started up.

Yer, when it 1st started to happen i was like s**t myself, altho i couldnt see it being anything huge..
Also afte power loss and listening to it and askin on here i put it together..
Annoying bit was the lead didnt cope right off, as i looked to see if one may have come off, but was too hot to push them on that night.

I cant express how relieved I am it was something easy. :!:

Same thing happened to me once.

I was in the car, my ex was driving, and I heard the difference in the exhaust note, and noticed the car sounding a little bit more lumpy that is should.
I told him to pull over... he sooked - said I was imagining it.

FORCED him to pull over, we popped the bonnet - 1 of the leads was dangling... reconnected it, and away we went good as new.

Annoying thing was that he was a mechanic!!

Lol, funny that he was a mechanic n didnt pick it up right away like you did!

Did it cause any vibration or didnt get to find out?

Yer, i know - drone also..
Thats what made me thin id might be that, altho it didnt explain the huge loss in power lol or note of zorst.

You were running on 7 cylinders how does that no explain the loss of power

One of my leads came loose but it was pretty obvious straight away. I was just p****d I lost the heat shield

No, i meant the fact I had less power was one of the reasons i thought it was engine/ignition relatied..
