hi
ive got a au xr8 sedan and its making a squealing noise like a belt once it warms up. its only under load though so I was thinking drivebelt but ive taken it off and driven it and its still there. so not water pump or drivebelt slipping. I heard the camshaft synchronizers are common and same kind of things happen. so I changed it and no different. does anyone know if the roller lifters could be a common fault? any help would be great |

Never heard roller lifters Squeal. Otherwise I would have said CID sensor but you've already changed it. Is the sound exactly the same after you changed the CID sensor? I've seen s**t aftermarket versions stuff up straight after install.

yeah its making the same noise. it comes and goes though. very weird. it makes a bit of a hiss when its turned off too. the bearing in the old cam synchronizer was quite rough feeling and ive followed the fitting instructions. yeah ive seen new parts failing straight after fitting too. I must admit it sounds louder on the passenger side compared to the drivers side.
ideas? |

just thinking about it I put lots of engine flush through when I got the car. since I used the flush its been noisy, I was thinkn of flushing it again and changing the oil again

ok ive flushed the engine oil again put in the recommended oil for it. i had a look on the hoist and seems to be coming from the bottom end. about 3 inches back from the torque converter but definitely in the engine.
has anyone ever had noisy bottom end bearings that sounds like a belt chirping? |

so you mean 3 inches forward of the torque converter?
I've never heard of such a thing. |

Could be cracked flex plate ?
Had similar issues with my 95 WRX ..

I know it's further forward but I've seen cases of the dipstick being bent and rubbing on the crank. That was in rear sump F-series engines but ya never know.

could be an intake noise, like air whistling, or PCV system. Been known to do that.

Old thread, did you find the problem yet?
Gets louder as it gets warmer? Sounds like a pulley, but isn't? Likely your harmonic synchronizer. Take the top off and pour a little engine oil down the shaft. You'll need to do it every now and then.

Was going to suggest that as I was reading through the thread so glad to see you sorted it.
The XR5's have a very similar sound & issue!
